Shadowspear (out in a couple of weeks) looks a big deal. A manager i've spoken to is very excited by the end game in the Vigilus system.

Unless I misread it yesterday, the poster's question seems to have changed from a new divi in March to a trading update. Anyway, last year the divi was paid on 23 March 2018. This year, the announcement was a month ahead. There has never been a fixed schedule for GAW's dividends, so one year doesn't make a pattern.

Nod, the dividend declared in Jan is the March dividend, following the usual quarterly pattern.

We are also announcing that the Board has today declared a dividend of 25 pence per share, in line with the Company's policy of distributing truly surplus cash. This will be paid on 1 March 2019 for shareholders on the register at 25 January 2019, with an ex-dividend date of 24 January 2019. The last date for elections for the dividend re-investment plan is 8 February 2019.

We had a divi in December and again in January, so I don't expect one in March. So far this financial year GAW has paid out 120p (GBP 38.8 million). From the recent Interims 15 January:"In the period we paid dividends of 30 pence per share and 35 pence per share (2017: 20 pence and 35 pence) amounting to GBP21.0 million (2017: GBP17.7 million). In addition, a dividend of 30 pence per share was declared on 7 December 2018 amounting to GBP9.7 million and a dividend of 25 pence per share was declared today amounting to GBP8.1 million."

An update on the British scammers. Two are being held. James Nolan faced a string of charges but twice failed to show at court. It's now known that Nolan left the country using a friend's passport. Nolan went through the the e-gate which detected a facial mismatch. He was then manually processed yet somehow convinced security that it was his passport and he was allowed to board. Embarrassing given that his mugshot had been in the news for a week.

This may have been mentioned a few weeks ago.
There seems to be much anticipation in the gaming world for Chaosbane. A release date of June 4th 2019 - only 97 sleeps away.

"Warhammer: Chaosbane is being developed by Warhammer creator Games Workshop and recently got a June 4 launch date for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. Two closed betas will be held in March and April."

£5k to invest? I would buy these market-beating FTSE 250 growth champions

One-of-a-kind
Another one-of-a-kind business that I think is worth paying a premium for today is Games Workshop (LSE: GAW). Several years ago, analysts were prepared to write off this producer of fantasy miniatures. There was no way the group could compete with the rise of mobile phone games and games consoles, analysts argued.

As it turns out, the City was wrong about the business’s ability to reinvent itself and, over the past five years, the company has gone from strength to strength. Operating profit has nearly quadrupled since 2013 and investors have been well rewarded, with the stock up more than 500% since the end of February 2014.

I don’t see any reason why this trend is going to come to an end anytime soon. The company has a cash-rich balance sheet and generates an impressive operating margin of 33%, giving it plenty of firepower to invest in new products or reinvent itself, if needs be.

The stock is currently dealing at a forward P/E of 18.7, which seems appropriate considering the group’s impressive profit margins. There’s also a 3.8% dividend yield on offer.

Love2,

Some interesting recruitment initiatives that I don't believe occur in my local store - I will ask when next in. The company is definitely working hard on recruiting the next generation of collector/players.

FoF,

The recently announced dividend of 25p won't be paid until 1st March, I wouldn't expect another one until June or July.

Mattel is taking a pounding after it issued a profit warning. When toy manufacturers and retailers take a hit, GAW often gets hit as well. Strong dollar has been against Mattel but in favour of GAW."The company said it expects adjusted EBITDA to be in a range of $350 million to $400 million for 2019, below analysts expectations of $551.6 million, according to FactSet data. The company also expects sales to be flat in 2019 when adjusted for currency."

Here is a little story to illustrate how mean New Line can be. In 2014, Wellington Phoenix football club arranged an A-League match (v Mariners)to be played in Auckland to celebrate the release of the final Hobbit movie. Weta Studios and Adidas were on board and a special film-themed kit was jointly designed to be worn by the team in the match on 14th December only. The kit would be sold at the ground only.

However, New Line intervened shortly before match day and refused to give the club and adidas licence to use the design. The kit could not be sold even in limited quantities.
The players wore the Hobbit kit for the match, but very few ended up in the public domain.

I bought the goalkeeper jersey last month. Signed on the back by the founder of Weta Studios - Sir Richard Taylor - and the Phoenix goalkeeper that day, Glen Moss. A rare and awesome item.

The challenge GAW have with large scale movie or TV tie ups is their lack of personnel and experience in managing their IP in such a medium. If a large film studio picked up the rights, they may want/demand some changes to the IP to make it fit the big screen and are GAW able to handle such a strong partner? Working closely with Board Game and Computer games companies is one thing, but large film studios might prove more challenging.

There's also the question of how easily the IP translates into film/TV. The 40k story is huge and finding a small enough story to condense into 120 mins without assuming the viewer understands the enormous back story is a challenge. Having said that, the Horus Heresy would be the most likely candidate for such a big screen treatment and it would be great to see.

I did hear some vague rumours of a TV series a while back but nothing concrete and nothing has emerged. With growing player numbers, it might just be a matter of time before someone decides that taking on a film/TV series might just fly.

Nod,

My partner had read all the Games of Throne novels and was looking for something of a similar genre to read and stumbled across The Horus Heresy on Audible which she has started to enjoy. (She has no knowledge of GAW)

I related this story to KR at the last agm suggesting it could be a possible box set style series and he (kind of) agreed if they ever did anything film wise it was likely to be a series outside of 40k & AoS.

I had a look at the Ultramarines reviews on IMDb where it scores 5.6 overall. Many viewers gave it 7 & 8 while many others 3 & 4. Average 5.6. The animation was below par and many were disappointed with the plot and narrative. The next movie would need to invest more to get those elements right. I don't know enough about the 40k books to know whether there is a strong storyline that could be adapted to make a great movie. To be financially worthwhile it would need to be watchable by people who know nothing about 40k.

Is there any reason for GAW not to re-start producing some of these "out of production" models? Just wondered if with rule changes they are still usable in the relevant games.

Obviously I appreciate that some people's involvement with GAW does not extend to actually using the products they buy and paint.

Thank you, Martin
