09/11/2018 09:21 | Looking at the offers more closely I think these are mostly computer games and mostly add-ons where you need to already own the base game. | nod
09/11/2018 08:46 | Thank you nod It has to be said that I have no idea of the normal cost of these items... ...or how good this will be at drawing in new customers versus costing GAW money by cannibalising sales at full price that would have happened anyway. ...Or indeed the average life time sales to a new customer. | shanklin
09/11/2018 08:30 | Hi Shanks, the margins on their products are huge. Take out all the manufacturing overheads and sales costs (trade or own store) and the cost of a model is little. Why do they do it? Good question. Their business survives on NEW recruits. Most Billion pound companies would spend millions every year on marketing. GAW has always prided itself on spending nothing on marketing. I would guess they see this as targeting new young customers and spending nothing on marketing. | nod
09/11/2018 08:05 | Hi nod So who funds these low prices please? Why would GAW do so? | shanklin

06/11/2018 22:30 | This is good news for GAW. Chinese copies have been around for a while. The strengthening of IP rights in China will give GAW scope to grow. Lego A/S has won a new intellectual property lawsuit in China after a court agreed with the Danish toy manufacturer that local companies had copied its building blocks and miniature figures under the LEPIN brand. The Guangzhou Yuexiu District Court ruled that the four defendants should immediately cease the production, sale and promotion of the toys and pay about 4.5 million yuan ($650,000) in damages, Lego said in an emailed statement sent Monday. https://www.bloomber | nod

04/11/2018 02:52 | Warhammer creator a winner at communication Games Workshop’s products may be confusing but it knows how to put across its strategy ... few companies communicate their business model as clearly as the creator of the tabletop battle game Warhammer. “We make the best fantasy miniatures in the world and sell them globally at a profit and we intend to do this forever,” runs the strategy statement. ... The odd names are part of the strategy. GW sticks to fantasy because it can control the intellectual property and keep refreshing its worlds. That is its “Fortress Wall”, the company website says. The shops that recruit new gamers are another barrier to entry for rivals — “our Fortress Moat”. This approach protects Warhammer and Warhammer 40k, from cheap imitators. It enables it to create new characters and tell stories through games and social media. Compare that with Hornby, whose trains, cars and Airfix planes are limited by historical reality and vulnerable to copycats. GW’s fortress approach extends to the City and media. Chief executive Kevin Rountree, who has been with the business for 20 years and took the top job in 2015, does not give interviews or do investor roadshows. | nod

01/11/2018 09:38 | Cheers Nod, Certainly continues the trend of reinvigorating historic themes with new content. That's the beauty of GAW, a 40 year IP archive they can delve into at will. | cockerhoop
01/11/2018 04:05 | CH, I don't know much about WH Quest as it was before my son's involvement. I do recall the WH Quest theme in the 90s was very popular. Rodeo Games released a WH Quest mobile game about 5 years ago which I still have on my iPad. Didn't play the game but tried it out to see how the graphics were. Another developer Perchang released a WH Quest 2 mobile game a year ago. The name Quest has been used quite a few times over two decades, not just by GAW. They can't trademark a common word.. | nod
31/10/2018 10:10 | Nod, Do you have any historical knowledge of the Warhammer Quest RPG brand in terms of sales etc? Seems there were releases in the mid 90's. GAW are shortly going to release Blackstone Fortress (set in the 40k universe) under the WH Quest brand with quite a bit of hype. I'm not currently sure how significant a release this could be. | cockerhoop

25/10/2018 23:26 | Hi Fred, good to hear your treatment is 50% through. I hope it all goes well. Our health and well-being are more important than the stock market gyrations. It would be hard to predict GBP-EUR over the next 5 months, with Brexit reaching its deadline. Italy and other EU events could have an impact on the EUR. The EU is now complaining about France's budget. Spain, Belgium, Portugal and Slovenia also had an EU reprimand last week. GBP-EUR has oscillated in a fairly narrow 5% range over the past 12 months despite all the Brexit anxiety. I sold GBP on the spike up two weeks ago, as I feel it may decline over the next few months. A breach of 1.14 EUR would be one to watch. | nod
25/10/2018 16:32 | Woo Hoo NOD that's me over half way with 17 session done and 16 to go. Side effects were rough last week but picking up now although really tired. Just booked a hol in Teneriffe for March/April to celebrate and was going to buy my Euros now !! Still enjoying your highly informative posts and thank you for your knowledge.
