Phew, well that's a relief... They've been trying to offload it for more than a year now. To get 13m euros upfront is quite good going really and I'm glad it's being used to pay off debt. Thought we'd see more of a spike as a result of this... Another example of Future getting its house in order.

I'm sure the next two months are going to show a steady, if unspectacular climb in anticipation of year end results being published. We already know it's going to be good news, just depends how good. Then I think we'll see a rise into the mid-50s, maybe even crash through 60p.

just topped up another 5,000 got my average down to 54p, which is probably a more realistic price to achieve.

Another good contract publishing win: Future have won the contract to produce the ODEON cinema magazine.

Ah rats, I've got to sell half my holding as I'm in dire need of some money! Perfect timing as always, just as the share price starts to falter once more...

Thanks for the info, huff, though perhaps unsurprisingly it has failed to have any impact on the share price so far. I know I predicted a dull period a while back but even I didn't think it would be quite so boring for so long, completely ignoring the rather large swings in the broader markets in recent months. With their recent trading statement also creating not a ripple there's every possibility we could have another month or two of this. Still, dull is not down so I suppose in the context of the last couple of years it's a step forwards. Roll on 2008, eh?

Future US has won the race to publish Nintendo's official mag in the States - Nintendo Power. That's a huge win for the US division!

A lot of people bought in the 80s. There was all that talk about the share being re-rated and heading ever upwards. Bah. Still, I'm optimistic for the near-term. A trading statement end of the month would be welcome, but think things will really start to motor when we get the end-of-year presentation (think it's the 28 November).

I'm still in the high 80s :(

End of year this month. Wonder if we'll get a trading update? I'm fairly positive it'll be good news. I met up with quite a few Future employees the other day at a social event and, to a man, they were in an upbeat chipper mood and quite bullish about the company's performance.

I topped up 3,000 more the other day @ 44.69p, I did through HSBC direct and put a price limit in 45p and it flashed up that I could buy at a guaranteed price of 44.69p I havent seen that before.

So I have brought my average cost down to around 60p !!

Three small cap tips
from top chartist Zak Mir of Zaks-TA.com

Future (FUTR):
:

Although Future shares have been in a range between 38p and 47p since the end of last year, and we have still not broken out of this range, there are at least a couple of reasons for looking at this chart in an optimistic way. The first is the way that there have been golden crosses between the green 10 day and grey 20 day moving averages, and the second the way that since the end of February the black 200 day moving average now at 41p, has been rising. This implies that we are overdue an up wave in this stock. Perhaps the best buy signal over and above the rising 200 day line would be a weekly close above the top of the recent range at 47p, something which looks as though it could be achieved by Friday. The top of the 2006 price channel at 65p is our end of 2007 target.

Mixed bag of ABCs. In the games sector: Nintendo and X360 mags all up, while PlayStation and multiformats were down. I'd expect PS titles to start adding readers now as sales of the console begin to slowly take off. Elsewhere, music mags up, film mags static, PC mags down. No real clear picture of how Future is performing to be honest, have to wait and see until we get a new trading statement at some point. So far, share price is holding up well compared to last set of ABCs.

And up she rises! Still, if the pattern before the last ABCs is repeated, we can probably expect a fall next week. Still, impressive little rise going on here, against a backdrop of a falling market too.

It's also worth noting that several papers name-checked Future as having some interest in the EMAP sell-off (if it goes ahead) suggesting some sort of link up with venture capitalists perhaps?

I suppose I'm wondering out loud whether I should sell all or some of my holding now it's near the top of the current range, as it looks quite generously priced right now compared to the rest of the market. It's tempting to hold on to see if it can break out of the range as from a technical standpoint a rapid move to around 60p would look likely to follow if it does. I'm just a bit doubtful that the stock-specific and market-wide fundamental support exists for such a move in the short term. Decisions, decisions...

bletherer - The rise has taken place against a backdrop of very small volumes, which is curious. Also, with ABCs the week after next, I'd have expected a fall if anything... there are bound to be continued declines in some core areas of the business which would scare many shareholders, although maybe the message that the business is changing and has diversified into three core areas (mags, internet and specialist publishing) is finally sinking through.

I wouldn't imagine that holds much weight. EMAP is undergoing a strategic review at the moment with the possibility of selling off many of its different divisions to venture capitalists or other media heavyweights.
