UK.. Gold does not crash at Christmas. In the last 5 years, gold has rallied strongly from either the first or second week of December into the new year - in 2013/14 the rally lasted into March.

Statistically, going back to 1973, Sept is gold's best month, followed by Jan, Feb, Dec, in that order.

Funny enough Randgold is sitting on 6108p a support level from May 3rd daily close.

I think 861p (25th Sept daily close) is a potential support.
If not, as I said before, this is like an insurance policy, it seems a waste of time until something bad happens and you need it.
Everything goes in cycles, I am relaxed.

Trophyman, in very simple terms 865 was a level of expected support. This didn't hold and the share price sunk lower and then back-tested this level on the way back up last month and then sunk again. So 865ish became resistance.
We have now smashed through that resistance and a back-test will reinforce the new upward trend.
eriktherock - 16 Oct 2018 - 07:05:19 - 5278 of 5484 FRESNILLO precious metals - FRES
Just a note to say that a back-test of 865 would be a positive for the upward momentum.

Good day, only a small holding and don't normally go in for competitions, but as I entered the silver one thought I'd throw my hat in, hope that's okay.

Hussyo that's fine as long as you don't want a tipple from that 60 yr old Macallan malt that sold at auction a few weeks ago for over £800k that would certainly wipe all my profit out.

If that could have been seen as a 'pre-election' budget yesterday and based upon a deal coming back from the EU talks which has some kinda 'Irish Sea border caveat' - and the UK gov has yet to vote on it. I think FRES at 1184p.
That's just looking at potential local events (for local people).

I guess what I was trying to say was that even when the dollar is strong (and therefore weak gold/silver price) that FRES still can see a silver lining to that cloud.

But yes, the gravy days will come when there is a crisis and gold shoots up, then FRES goes through the roof :)

Good stuff ham, maybe gold and silver dictate the value of the USD.
eriktherock

ham.. you make a reasoned point, however, leave the nuanced fundamentals aside for a mo. Fres's sp, when seen on the medium/long time frame, has an intimate link with the price of gold, which in turn is linked in inverse correlation to the greenback, which is ultimately tied to the nuanced wording coming out of the Fed.

So looking at this article, FRES reports in dollars and in eg 2017 benefited from lower costs due to a strong dollar / weak peso. Obviously with the strong dollar then silver prices will be lower. Therefore lower costs to offset the lower revenue.

But if the dollar gets weaker, the peso gets strong, reported dollar costs go up. Obviously with the weak dollar then silver prices will be higher. Therefore higher revenue to offset the higher costs.

I guess what I am trying to say is if the dollar is strong or weak then it doesn't really matter too much as one factor or another cancels out the moves?

I think that makes sense?

ie currency moves don't make a huge amount of difference, but seeing as revenue is higher than costs, a weaker dollar and therefore a higher silver price will work a bit better than the other way round, but still a strong dollar drops the costs - so hey!
