09/5/2002 09:38 | tcsc, and it is in the good sector of real estate. | melfaraj
09/5/2002 09:30 | scc, bang on the threshold of a breakout. good things have been said about this company. | melfaraj
08/5/2002 23:54 | melfaraj I always tend to spiral into positions. Looking at the fundamentals they are forecasting EPS frowth of 25% for 2004 and EPS of 56p per share . A PE of 25 would be stretching it but a PE of 20 would still give a PEG of 0.8% which offers good value. A break of the double bottom would give a minimum target of 10 pounds but if they make their EPS estimates they could hit the previous hiighs of 12 pounds. A yield of over 5 % makes it even more attractive. RMC chart | goodfella
08/5/2002 23:13 | goodfella, i believe you made the right decision regarding rmc. a useful strategy, designed to reduce risk in situations when a stock is on the brink of a breakout such as rmc, is to apportion your proposed investment capital into 2 or 3 portions investing one prior to the breakout, one after the breakout and the last when breakout has been fully confirmed. remember the safer you play it the less profit you stand to make. it is a trade off. but in this case i think the risk is small even investing prior to breakout when taking into consideration that this is a big company and the sector is boiling! | melfaraj
08/5/2002 15:14 | They did look very expensive on fundamentals, but recent ballistic results has made them now look more reasonable with some whopping growth figures pencilled in too. NAV is now quoted as 125p so trading at less than NAV which is now quite a rarity in the sector. Phil | the jitters
08/5/2002 15:05 | tlw, have been picked up by hemstock as a growth stock. the news is that they are doing well business wise. so may be worth a punt. | melfaraj
08/5/2002 14:18 | Anyone care to comment on Tullow TLW ? I fancied PLR as you know but it has broken and I am reluctant to chase stock but TLW has a similar chance of breaking out judging by the chart. It may also be a beneficiary of Enterprise investor funds just as Paladin. Phil | the jitters
08/5/2002 10:55 | melfaraj You beat me to it with RMC I have just taken a position today although it has not as yet broken out. But all indicators suggest it will. I will add on confirmation but am encouraged by both a sloping inverse head and shoulders and potential double bottom breakout thereafter. MacD turning up nicely after bouncing of signal line.. | goodfella
08/5/2002 10:42 | rmc, fancy a big company in a well to do sector and one that is bang on the threshold of a breakout, after all if you want to maximise your gains you should invest before the breakout assuming that you are not a risk averse investor, then look no more. has risen sharpl today thus confirming the potential for a breakout. | melfaraj
08/5/2002 08:19 | angl, tightly managed, and in the right sector, banks. | melfaraj
08/5/2002 07:57 | bnc, mining. well performing sector. | melfaraj
07/5/2002 15:54 | Well, anyone jump on Paladin then? Phil | the jitters
07/5/2002 14:09 | my bag of goodies for today: bbc & btb, both from the robust construction sector | melfaraj
07/5/2002 10:01 | I thought that's what I said! | zzaxx99
07/5/2002 09:57 | good good - Melfaraj I will look back on this thread... Zaax - MAs are calculated on business days only. | rjmahan
07/5/2002 09:45 | To stick my 2p in - not had a huge amount of luck programming a breakout filter in SS - however I do use two filters to get potential breakouts - one looks for stocks that have risen on each of the last 5 days by x%; the other looks for "accelerators" - stocks that have risen by increasing amounts over the last 3 days. Not ideal, but it does bring up a lot of candidates. | zzaxx99
07/5/2002 09:26 | rjmahan, i was asked this very question before in this thread and answered it. mrw, is in the right sector of food and drug. it had broken decisevly from significant resistance. it is heading south today, this however may be incidental as today is a particularly bad day for the market. sharescope is good. do you get good results in terms of breakouts. can you program it so that it may filter in significant breakouts from the none-significant ones? | melfaraj
07/5/2002 09:19 | Stealth-- if I understand you correctly, then no - MA200/50/10/whatever is 200/50/10/whatever business days - non-business days are ignored | zzaxx99
07/5/2002 08:25 | Melfaraj - how do you screen for these ? ? ? Any filters ? I use sharescape... I like the look of MRW. MCR - downward sloping 300day MA - same with ALD. | rjmahan
07/5/2002 08:20 | mcr, in the right engineering sector. broke through its significant line of resistance of 60p. it then turn down but has now picked up again. needs to test its last high and break through it decisively for confirmation. | melfaraj
06/5/2002 23:34 | rjmahan, i hope you have a chance to read my response again as i edited it. if you have access to a large bookshop i strongly suggest you have a look at farley's book above, browse through the 10's of examples and find for yourself the 'application' of ta as opposed to the abstract subjectmatter that most of the ta books give you. have fun. | melfaraj
06/5/2002 23:27 | Thanks Melfaraj - I am aware of the ratios - I just wasnt aware they could be used like that... | rjmahan |
