29/3/2010 21:09 | This was in an article on iii today about the Falklands' economy (not about FKL): In a quirk of fate, this year's Illex season has reportedly seen healthy catches and income of around £7 million from the sale of licence fees to ships from the Far East. So at least FKL's normal activities should be ok. | eburne1960
29/3/2010 20:57 | Ah now I see: The drilling of a new oil well that threatened to reignite the Falklands conflict has yielded poor results so far, the firm carrying out the exploration has said. Shares in Desire Petroleum plummeted by nearly half after it updated the market today, also pulling down shares of other firms operating in the region. Desire, which had an oil rig towed all the way from the North Sea to drill off the Falklands, said it did find some oil but it was present in 'thin intervals' and 'reservoir quality is poor'. The British firm said final analysis later this week would determine whether it would drill deeper, pause for testing or abandon the Liz well, now 3,570metres deep. However, it did find evidence of gas at 3,400metres, which has to be evaluated. Desire's plans to drill the first new oil well in the Falklands for more than a decade triggered fresh diplomatic tensions between Britain and Argentina. Britain has ruled the islands since the 19th century, but Argentina claims the archipelago 300 miles off its coast as its own. The likelihood of a repeat of the Falklands War of 1982, sparked by an Argentine invasion of the islands, diminished today along with the value of oil shares. Two other British firms with interests in the region were also hit by the announcement. Shares in Falkland Oil dropped 11.4pc while Rockhopper Exploration, which owns 7.5pc of the Liz well, was plummeted by about a quarter. Analysts at Westhouse Securities said: 'Expectations ran high ahead of the start of drilling for both companies and this morning's share price reflects the market's significant disappointment with news to date.' Westhouse added that the sell-off of the firms' shares was overdone. However, it added that it was still early in the drilling campaign - Liz is only the first of six wells on the cards. 29/3/2010 20:55 | 16% down on the day?????? May be worth a buy but bet they bounce before I get the chance in the morning!! | keithfagan2
29/3/2010 08:08 | Just MM's making the most of the not so bad Desire news. | hyper al
29/3/2010 08:06 | any ideas why shares have opened 11% lower on no news. | manrobert
24/3/2010 18:56 | Anyone know when they are due to announce initial drilling results? | keithfagan2
09/3/2010 19:27 | Lol they were 1/2p WAY back in the 90's and then we were given 1 share for every 200 shares I think it was. So I have been through the mill more than once with these. | keithfagan2
05/3/2010 22:33 | OFF TOPIC: babylon, COP also a fat prophets choice, ranging at present a good few months. Big breakout coming but direction not apparent. Surprised it has not tended upwards more on your info. Will watch thanks! | edjge2
05/3/2010 11:00 | 1/2p????? Reissue???? Don't think they've been lower than 40p...... | eburne1960
05/3/2010 10:09 | I have had these since before the re-issue when they were 1/2p!!! So I am happy to sit and watch. Nice to muse on what WILL happen to the price should oil be found...Well we should know in about 4 months or so. Luckily it has never been a volatile stock and this means has attracted little attention from the more ridiculous speculators. Hopefully we willstay under the radar long enough to be able to take full advantage of underpriced stock before any surge (I a crossing everyhing that the black sticky stuff is found). | keithfagan2
05/3/2010 08:32 | Have looked at POG before - went for CEY & MML instead, since sold out of MML. By far my largest holding, however, is in COP - way undervalued & producing loads of oil. | babylon3
04/3/2010 19:13 | Suspect election will be majority but whomsoever wins, by then I suspect oil found. fkl price down due to argie fright/ profit taking. Anything under 400p tempts me to add. Cannot lightly sign away falklanders rights of citizenship. I would prefer busted British to argies 'giving democracy a test run'. If the situation blows then suspect Cameron will do a Maggie. Great diversion too. All imo.Babylon suspect Pog may have been a better short term choice with bonus iron shares to boot. | edjge2
26/2/2010 14:38 | Just sold some DES (bought a 80p) and put the proceeds here. | babylon3
24/2/2010 10:41 | Looks like posturing from the Argentinians as they have now gone via the UN route. Their economy is still in trouble and no doubt they will be looking for some financial deal with the UK. The issue is how weak willed this Govt is to make a deal with them. Tony Blair made no secret of the fact he was willing to look for a way of having shared sovereignty over the Falklands or even pass it over completely. Personally though I think this will rumble on for some time but neither party wants to stop drilling. When this WILL become interesting is if they find oil!! | keithfagan2
23/2/2010 09:00 | how come the price of these are dropping , is there no increase in value to be had from all the infrastructure that FKL can provide ? | scrapman
22/2/2010 19:26 | our till is *cked until.... but I doubt they will. Different regime; singed last time. Buy opp for this if it all takes off. | edjge2
22/2/2010 18:12 | Can we afford the fuel bill to get there this time??? Gordon has not left much in the till!!! | goldenshare888
19/2/2010 20:06 | Posturing I think from vanity, can only help gold price too. Iran ready to go too. Nice diversion for Obahma. Oil there; only a matter of time for FKL. | edjge2
17/2/2010 09:37 | Its going to hit the fan again imho!!! | goldenshare888
17/2/2010 08:03 | From the Times Argentina has declared that it is taking control over all shipping between its coast and the Falklands, in effect awarding itself the power to blockade the disputed islands. According to a decree issued by President Kirchner last night, all ships sailing through the waters claimed by Argentina must hold a permit. The measure seems likely to deepen a row over conflicting claims to oil beds lying inside the Falkland Islands' territorial waters, the Times reports. | monet
14/2/2010 20:36 | Yes, dyor indeed, it's a ship that was detained because it PREVIOUSLY delivered items related to the drilling! | eburne1960
14/2/2010 20:27 | They may do well selling tin hats.Apparently Argentina is preventing Desire petroleum ships from leaving port.It looks like its all going to kick off again! dyor& be careful. | goldenshare888
11/2/2010 21:54 | Quite a surprise to be getting a maiden interim dividend. | eburne1960 |
