08/11/2005 08:16 | LONDON (AFX) - Electrocomponents PLC, the electrical and industrial supplier, reported a slump in half-year profit as expected, blaming poor UK trading, and said it remains "cautious" for the full year. The company, which issued a profit warning in September, said pretax profit before restructuring costs fell to 35.3 mln stg in the six months to Sept 30 from 49.6 mln in the same period last year. Sales rose to 396.8 mln stg from 379.5 mln. Barclays forecast pretax profit of 34.5 mln stg. The company said it aims to complete the problematic rollout of a key computer system, Enterprise Business System, in the final quarter of its financial year. It also said it will continue its cost-cutting drive announced earlier this year that aims to cut annual costs by 10 mln stg over three years and accelerate a new strategy focusing on its key markets. "In the first half, the strong growth in our International business, which now represents over half the group's revenue, has been offset by difficult trading conditions in the UK, and incremental activity and costs associated with our Enterprise Business System ('EBS') project," said Electrocomponents chairman Bob Lawson in a statement. Revenue in the UK was down 3.6 pct from last year, which Electrocomponents blamed on the decline in the UK manufacturing sector and slower economic growth. However, the international business, which represents more than half of the group's revenue, was strong, increasing sales by 9 pct. Continental Europe sales growth rate doubled to 5 pct, with Asia and the rest of the world achieving 14 pct, and North America 14 pct. | tokyogirl
03/11/2005 12:07 | Thank you AOO. | tokyogirl
02/11/2005 20:03 | Hi AOO! I don't quite follow what you were saying. The bullish morning star I was referring to was dated 28th Oct, and it was confirmed the following day. I have my idiotic way of reading candles stick patterns. I used to be able to post charts, but I haven't been able to do so since I changed my computer programme to 'Window XP' some time ago - can't bring up 'properties' of my chosen chart when I right click the mouse. | tokyogirl
