Reports from Spain that Ryanair are planning base closures including Faro from January 2020. Potential good news for EZY.... https://www.expansion.com/empresas/transporte/2019/08/07/5d4ae30ce5fdeae8328b457e.html

Fingers crossed this continues throughout the day :-)

Edit : That 700,000 trade at 998p after the close looks like it could signal the start of one of our shorters starting to close their position.

This is the most recent update from Monday when Marshall Wace indicated that they had increased their short. ............ great timing. Not !

Thanks Tlobs2. I heard the news of hundreds of Ryanair pilots being laid off on the radio, which struck me as extremely odd, given the fiasco last year of insufficent pilots to cover holidays. Wasn't aware the Max was going to hit RYA so much, though not a close follower of them, but that certainly explains it.

Very technical comment from Mr O'Leary :-)

This is a huge opportunity for Easyjet to benefit from the Ryanair woes.....

Ryanair is also suffering from the worldwide grounding of all Boeing 737 Max airplanes, after two crashes killed 346 people.

The company, which is the largest budget airline in Europe, ordered 58 Boeing Max planes, but after the grounding expects to have 30 by next summer. “It may well move to 20, it could move to 10, and it could well move to zero if Boeing don't get their sh*t together pretty quickly with the regulator,” Mr O’Leary said.

“Ryanair has already slashed flights and said it may need to close bases as a result of the ongoing crisis,” reports The Daily Telegraph. “It cut its growth for summer 2020 from 7% to 3%, meaning it would carry 5 million fewer passengers in the year to March 2021.”

Get ready for the GE bounce. I expect Boris to announce it in August, in order to drain the swamp before October 31. :0)

Thankfully Ryanair are trying their best to make this an excellent year for Easyjet.

Previously they couldn't get their pilots to fly for them when they went on strike. Today we hear that because of their choice of preferred 737 aircraft and with so many of them now grounded indefinitely they are now sacking hundreds of their staff and cancelling thousands of flights.

What a wonderful opportunity for Easyjet to sweep up millions of their customers..... :-)

You could be right and it certainly looks cheap at this price but I think there is every chance that it could go lower. There is usually plenty of chop and drop in August so it could be a time to buy or add. Do you know when there is any news due?

I think you'll be waiting some time for an opportunity to buy at 870.

You might get a chance at 980 if you're quick ;-)

There's every chance that this might try and fill the gap in the 870 area. Would be a good time to buy for long term there. I thought it might bounce off the support line at 1045 but out now as it's fallen through. The 1040/60 area also looks to be a line of resistance.
Summer weakness not helping either. airlines in general very risky.
See how August goes before buying I think.

If it's in a SIPP then waiting for £20+ while accumulating divi's works for me. The irony being that our 'bear' went short at 965p into an UPTREND! Then no doubt got stopped out as it rose 15pc to £11 only to see it fall back to the entry level :)

To be fair the posts here tend to be nicely balanced.
Also, whatever your view the sector may be worth watching for opportunities.

Looks like the recent downward pressure was driven by AQR and Marshall Wace who increased their short positions recently.

Should be interesting when the tide changes .................... fingers crossed they get well and truly burnt on the way back up :-)

To be fair EI, they seem to be in a pretty decent position at the moment. There must be others out there looking at their infrastructure, their fleet and growing reputation.

Three years ago EZJ would have been well down my list if I had choice of operators. That now is Ryanair by some considerable distance now.

PS if this isn't share price manipulation then I don't know what is.....

tlobs, there is the possibility of a bid, mentioned it many times.
That's a potential advantage of holding EZJ over RYA.
Luck with your holding.

Eh EI and SNF I'll not bother joining your lotto syndicate if that's ok?

The optimism and positive outlook before each draw would be too much for me :-)
