The way TPE was managed after the sale was a text book what not to do, my old man always taught the dangers of arrogance but feel so sorry for staff left without a job

Anyone carrying awkward freight will have a field day because volume will hugely outstrip supply for quite a while. Put rates up would be my advice and control volume - realistically this could easily double DX profits and pallet networks and XDP will also benefit

I agree, SteMiS. May be it's time to bring Lloyd back into the fold. As CEO of Tuffnells, he was instrumental in turning it around. We will never be privy to the facts, but I suspect he was sacrificed as a scape-goat for all the brouhaha last year.

I can't believe DX. won't have considered acquiring them, either directly or out of administration. It's a business many of them will know well, have previously been employed there. DX have the cash to do a deal if they wanted.

Classic capitalism - share price feeding off the carcass of another.

Quote from Daily Telegraph, about 40 mins ago:

Tuffnells is understood to have told its 2,300-strong workforce to go home on Friday afternoon as it prepares for administration.

'All drivers were called back to their depots on Friday and a national meeting of staff has been scheduled for Monday at 12pm, with the expectation that an administration will be formally announced.'

Some client base to pick up there!

I think Tuffnells has been struggling a while. It was sold by Connect Group to a management team for just £15m payable over 3 years with Connect providing them with a £10.5m loan to support it's 'turnaround'. Almost giving it away.

hxxps://www.insidermedia.com/news/national/connect-group-to-sell-tuffnells-in-15m-deal

Not sure what would be better, to acquire them or let them go bust. Turnover was £178m in y/e Dec 2021. In their holding company accounts they noted an expected loss for 2022, that the directors have instituted a profit recovery plan and expect to return to profit in 2023. The best intentions...

£178m would be a lot to take on, even for DX. with £450m of turnover but would be a quantum leap in size. I guess they could gradually transfer it into their existing network. If they could make the same margin (~15%), then it could double DX.'s profits. That would certainly do something for the share price.

All speculation though...

A sudden stream of relatively modest purchases after around 2:30. Looks like either a tip or news of something has leaked out. Can't see anything on twitter.

Let's remind ourselves:

Interims

£231m revenues
£25.5m EBIDA
£36m net cash

Market cap c.£160m so say £120m after cash and double half year EBITDA and we are on 2.5X EV/EBITDA...a bit rough and ready but you get the drift and DYOR!

And we have yield and nearing end of capex programme?

i've bought a few helping soak a few of the stock that is around up! But no not sure it has been tipped, trading update was in July last year, and IMO, now claim settled, this should be valued on fundamentals, which are IMO dirt cheap on EV/EBITDA basis! DYOR

As was widely discussed, a small settlement, the avoidance of expensive court time, avoided Bonus !

As I said in February

"my expectation is that this will be settled out of court with a non material payment by DX. and confidentiality agreement.

That the previous auditors caused so much trouble over this is scandalous

It caused a lot of disruption for management which can't have helped DX in the short term.

This confidential settlement, which is without any admission of liability, brings the claim to a satisfactory conclusion for all parties. It has no impact on the Company's expectations for its financial year ending 1 July 2023 or thereafter.
