The loss reported is a hedging loss, a pure technicality necessitated by reporting rules.

Can anyone here also please explain what strategy the shorters or market makers are employing that can be profitable if they arbitrage and manipulate the prices between London and NYSE?

Don't get excited over the NYSE price.
Sadly we have proved that it has no correlation with the price here.
See posts above.
It should in a fair and regulated market but LSE is not, as we've ascertained.

The volume in New York has increased substantially today and there's still 3 hours of trading left!

Please note the disclosures...we are short and made this up to benefit financially. Where is the evidence for an 18% depletion rate? Perhaps they are working for the rat shorter knievel son of?

Failed backroom boiler room brothers cook up defamatory figures to massage their 3 pounds a point IG short. They must know more than the auditors, the analysts and the 1600 staff. I bet Rusty wishes he stayed in investment banking

Seen it many times over many years. Why does placing a short position on the LSE place a heavy clamp on the share price? That's not how short selling is supposed to work. Only in the UK.

I wonder if DEC are thinking about cancelling their LSE listing? It must be tempting.

But the whole point of the company is to be a cow to be milked in dividends...

It's an opinion that may or may not turn out to be correct. If the dividend gets paid and following ones also you can take comfort from the fact that the shorters will drive the share price back up and lose a load of money for being wrong.

Up 16% from the lows in NY

Margin calls about to obliterate the late shorts

The company is currently paying out c.35% of its market cap in dividends. Suspending the dividend saves the company a huge $175M or so annually.
The short attack and the share price reaction is implying DEC is short of capital and is going bust - well see above.

and that is only 'potentially' bad news, the company has stated clearly that they are unaware of any justification for the share price fall. Expect another nonsense article from the shorters tomorrow, it's getting a bit pathetic, the FSA should really get a grip and these kind of shenanigans. No wonder that the London market is becoming such a bad place to list!

I sense a bear trap. Terrific volume in the US who have shrugged off the amateurs short selling story. At the current share price a huge amount of bad news is already priced in.
