Dividend is now over 30% so a reduction is hardly difficult to predict ...

This does not necessarily follow.

What is the cover on the dividend?

I'm hoping for a lower entry anyway so don't really care

Topaz, Whats the difference between saying that and saying:

"This is going lower"

Millipede, a few days ago the company issued an RNS saying that they are not aware of any reasons why the price should have decreased so much.
I read into it that the main conditions remain stable, including dividend.
If they cut it "immediately" they would have been lying on their RNS, wouldn't they?
Also, why would someone list a company in NY if they know it is hopeless, why going through all that pain? why bother?
Maybe I am just hoping and projecting, but I assume we will know in a weeks time

If they decide to maintain the dividend as is however then these people will burn with their shorts

I think the scope for further heavy falls should not be underestimated.
With the way GAAP skews the accounts and the US politicos on DEC's case it is difficult to demonstrate that everything is fine, though I expect the news from the company to state that all is on track - if poor results /outlook are reported, the directors would be for the high jump for the last RNS stating that there were no operational reasons to account for the drop in the share price

The drop has been so relentless that there is bound to be a residual market concern which is likely to hold back the share price for quite a while. Frankly, £12 (60p old money) which seemed impossibly low last year could be an aspiration well into this year. £20 (100p old money) which last year seemed about as low as DEC could go is now a very distant prospect. Looked at like that, the shorters probably feel pretty comfortable. Even the ex div date about a month hence may not trouble them unduly, if they reckon a lot of badly shaken shareholders will sell out or at least lighten their holdings as soon as it is in the bag.

One thing has been reassuring to me. Last year the FD departed rather suddenly, but so far as I a aware nothing has been made of that in the present attacks. If there was anything concrete to go on to cast doubt on the reliability of the figures, something would surely have been made of his departure and replacement from within the company.
It is the anxiety that there may have been a bit of 'Enron' type accounting which I always have a nagging fear of where a company seems to be doing far better operationally and is paying a much higher dividend than its sector competitors. The problem is that you do not know until it hacks you in the back of the head and reflect 'those returns should have been a warning ...'

Only one thing is absolutely certain: a 33% dividend and the present share price can't both be right.

I already have a full position, which I am holding. If the price falls low enough though, I shall probably break the rules and buy a few more. How low is low enough for that? Probably about £7.50 if I buy while the adverse winds are still blowing, but anything under £9.00 if I wait until this blws over (as I hope it will). I shall probably go the latter route. Nothing in life is certain, so it would be worth an extra £1.50 to see evidence that the storm is over and thip still seaworthy before committing more capital. Others with no or small holdings could very reasonably decide that thereward of buying before the turn outweighs the risks.

It is extraordinary, but true tat if the dividend holds a SIPP holder would see the cost of an investment today repaid in three years. But there is an 'IF' there. Many a slip twixt cup and lip.Proceed with caution.

It is really amusing that people are discussing 50 year cash flow forecasts

Let me take out my crystal ball in 1975 and tell you what the markets will look like next year especially the price of gas :)

What a farce.

There are a few of these reports floating around at the moment and at least some cases, eg Gigacloud Technology (Nasdaq), where the share price has shrugged off a short report after the company response.

The report on DEC seems quite adamant that the dividend will need to be cut imminently. It will be pretty easy to refute that, if the company position on things is correct.

Popit - they have a view in the same way buyers do - nothing wrong with that - if you disagree with them buy the stock. Simples.
