Arcadia:

"High Street retail chain Arcadia claims to be in serious trouble, facing what it calls "significant liquidity issues".

The answer, it believes, is a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA), a series of proposals to its creditors.

But critics say it raises as many questions as it answers and fails to address key branding and operational problems in the company.

Arcadia, owned by Lady Tina Green, the wife of chairman Sir Philip Green, says sales in its stores open more than a year fell 9% in 2018-19.

Earnings this year are expected to be £30m, compared with £219m two years ago.
Faced with fixed charges of £100m a year, the group says it is struggling to pay its way."

Philip Green and his wife have taken £1.2 billion out of BHS and taken considerable money out of Arcadia in one way and another the pension funds will not be a bit happy about Philip Greens proposal to pump in £50 million but want to cut Arcadia pension payments to reduce pension deficit.

The city will have all eyes on the way this works out.

Even if Green manages a CVA retail is set to worsen due to BREXIT uncertainty and the possibility of a recession.

BBC:

What's going on?

"It is symptomatic of a wider issue on the High Street," said Kate Nicholls, who is the chief executive of trade body UKHospitality.

She said 15 restaurants a week were closing, as a "murky" political and economic outlook takes its toll on consumer spending.

Comment on article:

Too many players in a saturate market place and people just don't go out as they once did, kids don't play out either they are locked in their bedrooms on social media.

With BREXIT worries and a possibility of a recession in Europe and the UK people will reign in their spending further more shops and restaurants will have to close.

Could be 3 to 5 years before things have completed to implode and then who knows what the world will be like after that.

There are too many people on the planet a war tended to reduce the population no one wants a war but that is the reality of the situation.

Qantas , Hope you are ok and debsdowner is still doing research for us .Debsdowner short poem for you .

This May, Minister May,
Has finally chosen the day.

She was sick of the heave ,
Therefore she has decided to leave .

Her eyes were so full of tears,
With all those wasted years.

In her speech she was chewin ,
As her life's work in ruin.

Her husband said dont worry .
For tea its flipping hot curry.

Every one knows you did not sin ,
But all your plans are now in the bin .

Now Our arms deal will die,
And all our saved money will fry .

Your successor is not Norris ,
But his real name is probably Boris.

No more verses to now send ,
As this is now nearing the end.

Investors in Marks & Spencer have raised concerns about the £30 million in fees and expenses the retailer is spending on its cash call to finance its food delivery venture with Ocado. M&S is tapping shareholders for £601.3 million in a deeply discounted one-for-five rights issue. However, under the terms of the share sale, unveiled this week, the retailer disclosed that the proceeds would actually amount to £570.7 million once fees and expenses were paid. - The Times

Sir Philip Green's retail empire will close all Topshop stores in the United States as part of a proposed rescue package that faces opposition from landlords and the Pensions Regulator. Sir Philip, 67, had said previously that he wanted to build a "billion-dollar business in America", but he is being forced to restructure his Arcadia group as sales fall sharply in its shops. - The Times

Marks & Spencer Group PLC (MKS) fell sharply to close at 246 pence, down 9.37 percent. The previous time the stock lost this much was Feb 27, when it closed down 12.47 percent. It was also high volume. Overall it was traded for 5439 millions pence in the stock, which is five times as much as normal daily turnover. Nor technically does it look good. The stock is assessed as technically negative for the medium long term.
