Burberry's underlying profit was unchanged last year as cost cuts offset a decline in revenue at the luxury clothing brand. Adjusted operating profit for the year to the end of March fell 6% to £438m but excluding currency movements profit was flat. Revenue at constant exchange rates fell 1% to £2.72bn and operating costs fell 1% to £1.42bn.

..... or due to poor punters having unwisely done their conkers on a string of failing department stores and prehistoric retail chains?

Please do your own research.

No problem. You can warm it up a bit in a very low oven - not too hot or it will end in tears mind.

City AM report on wages full of errors BBC show wages allowing for inflation lower now than in 2008.

Am astonished how financial reports allow to publish inaccurate data when the average man in the street can do better.

Morning.

I read the rates article yesterday we will all have to pay the difference in our rates bill! Ironic isn't it we pay in the end as the money has to come from somewhere to balance the council bill.

On other matters wages data issues today, up 3.2% excluding bonus but this is less than the city expected. The city report data seems to me to be inaccurate as they say wages are less than they were in 2008 but the statement at odds with their published figures.

Maybe someone else can come up with an answer as to the inaccuracy, it could be they have failed to mention the comparison doesn't take account of inflation! Just a thought.

1 in 10 shops now closed says the Guardian and the situation will get worse before it gets better. Just what I was banging on about before Debenhams was placed in administration.

As the above figure is an average some towns will have a lager percentage of store closures.

I am not looking forward to people losing their jobs but evolution has to take place.

KNIGEL

Longevity is one of the problems for the pension deficits which ahs hit many a company including John Lewis.

Most companies shut down their defined pension schemes to new employees but are still burdened with their deficits.

Shareholders would get some of their investments back. There's no scintillating doubt about that. Have faith but keep your powder dry. Vgla

Finding the pension payments in your council tax leaflets impossible - they hide it completely.

I’m sure you are looking forward to the downfall of Arcadia and many people loosing their jobs. The taxes generated from the business have been huge over the years.
Following your logic, no company should pay a dividend in case it all goes wrong twenty years later. Arcadia not a pubic company and based on private investment.
Pensions are the tail wagging the businesses now due to poor government policy from all parties.
If you invested in an an endowment policy on your own you have to live with the ups and downs - mainly down, and live with the consequences.
Nice to know you regard your posts as supreme in content to others and your ‘knowledgeR17; infallible.

I am not saying I don't like him but the the way he has acted questionable and the select committee MPs been critical of his actions as well.

You mention he paid into the BHS pension scheme which I believe was circa £300 million but PG and his wife paid themselves a dividend of £1.2 billion pound earlier on when he first acquired the company then deprived BHS of investment!

You need to do better research before you criticise my posts.

There have been numerous calls to strip PG of his knighthood and he only paid in the £300 million after much pressure after the call to strip his Knighthood.

If Arcadia goes belly up with a pension deficit both the pension regulators, the MP's and the press will be seeking blood yet again.

Even if you don’t like him, PG is probably the only person who has sorted a pension scheme.
Tata are taking money from the Govt. for all matter of things on steel and JLR ‘investments’ including pensions then building plants in Slovakia rather than supporting jobs here.

Good evening I am unable to post much lately due to other pressing matters but looked in for a break.

I read the piece in the Express earlier and not at all surprised as most of Philip Greens so called wealth was in Taveta holdings which also comprise the Arcadia Group which is virtually insolvent.

PG could be heading for trouble Arcadia collapses due to a large pension deficit.

It would be the second time the pensions schemes been in deficit and the regular would be looking very closely what PG and his wife has taken out of the Arcadia group.

on other matters Brexit in a mess and shock poll results today in the Independent say Labour would win a general election however Nigel Farage now said to be gathering significant ground Teresa May in a great deal of difficulty.

The Brexit mess will continue to hit market sentiment and likely to knock shares imo.
