13/10/2017 08:57 | Is that fresh chickens or, ahem, 'fresh' chickens? | mcmather
13/10/2017 08:45 | As Tiger mentioned it’s the fixed HQ costs that are seriously hindering things here. We probably need to sell more than 500,000 chickens just to pay Noel’s wages! | playful
12/10/2017 11:35 | Signs of food poisoning can appear up to 48 hours after event .my experience it is normally about 5 hours with sickness and diarrhoea. That is not my personal experience but from dealing with patients. With that large timescale it is sometimes difficult to pinpoint the source. Often if you eat a dodgy meal about 8pm the problems are obvious overnight. | haroldthegreat
12/10/2017 11:03 | The Food Standards Agency (FSA) published research which suggests that the official figures for food poisoning seriously under-estimate how many people suffer from food poisoning each year in the UK. Many people who experience food poisoning do not report their illness to their GPs as many individuals recover quickly from the symptoms. This research, combined with official data, gives a more realistic picture of how many food poisoning cases are happening each year. Statistics that emerged from the study include the fact that: Poultry meat is estimated to cause 244,000 cases of food poisoning cases each year. Vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds, caused the second highest number of cases of illness followed by beef and lamb. As well as identifying about half a million cases of food poisoning attributable to 13 specific pathogens researchers believe that 10 million incidents of infectious intestinal disease (IID) a year are not yet attributed to a specific pathogen. The lead researcher Professor Sarah O'Brien, from the University of Liverpool, said: 'These findings will help the FSA to target its resources more effectively in tackling food poisoning. They confirm that the FSA is right to put campylobacter at the top of its priority list. It is the biggest food safety problem we have and more needs to be done to tackle it.' The message of Food Safety Week was to encourage people not to wash their raw chickens as this can encourage the spread of the Campylobacter pathogen through water droplets. Tina Patel, a solicitor at Leigh Day who deals with food safety claims commented: “I would encourage anyone who does suffer with symptoms of food poisoning to report them to the relevant authorities no matter how quickly their symptoms resolve. “It is only by reporting every incident which occurs that the true number of food poisoning cases each year will emerge and preventative action taken”. 12/10/2017 10:55 | I am pleased to state on record i do not work for 2 sisters !there have been reports of 60 year old cans being opened and contents still OK. there were no expiry dates on those cans though.! | haroldthegreat
12/10/2017 10:53 | don't get too hung up on dates. To sell a product past its best before date is no problem. To extend a fresh chicken products life USE BY ..........you just freeze it under the right conditions. It can then have 6/12/24 months added. I don't see this being a major issue. What is an issue is the Supermarkets who are fighting each other NOT crawshaws. Not a good place to be. I still feel CRAW has very little chance of making it to 2020. The outlet idea is better but far too many fixed plc costs. I have no position here. Tiger | castleford tiger
12/10/2017 10:40 | "I am not justifying 2 sisters staff actions because they are wrong but writing alarmist rubbish is just as bad." .................... LOL, It's not alarmist rubbish, and if it was, alarmist rubbish doesn't constitute potential health problems caused by meat hygiene issues. Firstly, in todays aggressive supermarket backdrop, Craw are going to have an uphill battle with their business model - fact. 2S are being investigated for meat handling/packaging/d The rational for 2S investment into Craw was that it gave them a retail outlet to sell meat that was constituting a waste and thus affecting their bottom line. Good job you're not working at 2S with your - 'it's only 9 years out of date and only been dropped once' philosophy....... Or maybe you do, lol | owenski
12/10/2017 10:02 | What proof have you got for your statement ? Have there been any reports of food poisoning. Do you throw away everything on the use by date at home. ? Do you look at an apple say I'm throwing this out its reached its use by date .I keep eggs in my fridge and can use them 3 weeks after the date stamped. Never had a problem yet. I am sure use by dates allow a few days tolerance. One uses ones eyes, nose and taste to decide what's not edible. There was a report recently that studied the effect of dropping food on the floor and it concluded the time of contact was important.short contact was not so bad. I am not justifying 2 sisters staff actions because they are wrong but writing alarmist rubbish is just as bad. No doubt you are shorting the shares though! I recently opened a tin of salmon I found at the back of my cupboard and after eating it found it was 9 years out of date. It tasted fine and I only saw the date whilst throwing the can away. I am still alive and kicking but have noticed my hair is going greyer and my bald spot larger. Is that the salmon, old age or the 2 sisters effect on my holding ? | haroldthegreat
12/10/2017 09:38 | The problems here started when they went on the expansion road show. Prior to that the business functioned well but it was always in a crowded market place and the 'majors' are fighting for retained share, plus, Lidl etc have ramped up their expansion program during the same time. I doubt if the cheapness logo is actually that cheap anymore, especially if the cheap was as a result of dumping of shoddy unsaleable by other routes from 2S onto Craw. Craw is still a bargepole IMO | owenski
12/10/2017 09:29 | Again agree to both points, but what I'm saying is #35%cheaperthanthesu | owletta
12/10/2017 07:08 | Shrinkflation goes on everywhere today. Normally it goes unnoticed compared with a price rise. For 40 years I have always given everyone a tin ( now plastic box) of quality street in addition to their main gifts. With loads of tins in the house the odd one gets consumed and the tins were kept for storing odds and ends.it took several years before I noticed the reduction in size .who looks at the underside of a tin. It is cleverer to reduce the quantity than increase the price. When toblerone stupidly removed some of the peaks from their packs it was noticed immediately.if they had removed a cm or 2 they probably would have got away with it. . | haroldthegreat
11/10/2017 21:24 | Totally agree, been into store & all pack sizes have been reduced in weight, and yet they still crow about being 35% cheaper that most supermarkets, absolute nonsense, as is #easy. #lostthedressingroom | owletta
11/10/2017 21:03 | Charts rule OK | buywell3
11/10/2017 21:02 | buywell38 Sep '17 - 11:51 - 5397 of 5507 0 0 Edit This chart is now looking to retest the recent low If this previous low does not hold Then talk about 1 star or any star ratings of stores could become purely an exercise in expelling hot air This chart of this company indicates trouble coming dyor | buywell3
08/10/2017 23:09 | Chicken supplier’s investors in a flap over inquiry into food hygiene standards Now 12 sites in England, Scotland and Wales are under investigation. Marks and Spencer, Lidl, Aldi, Sainsbury's and Tesco suspended taking chicken from the plant over hygiene concerns. | playful
04/10/2017 23:20 | To my mind, the guys got the product correct. Their selling strategy let them down, woefully. | lufc5
04/10/2017 21:46 | Can’t beat those Crawshaw premium Botswana burgers! Let’s momentum build with Botswana burgers. | playful
04/10/2017 21:32 | Botswana Burgers...........yo | cockerhoop
04/10/2017 21:15 | Tonight’s task on the apprentice is selling burgers 🍔 let’s hope they didn’t get them from 2S. We should sell buffalo burgers. Girls going for Aberdeen Angus now that’s going to win, it’s always the perceived premium product that wins every day. Meat mishaps, Noel knows all about those 🤗 | playful
03/10/2017 18:07 | The market for seconds is changing for all companies. Last week we were told Coca cola will now send all damaged/residual stock to land fill because they lose traceability once its out of original case. The world has gone mad, Cargill ( sun valley ) shoving prices up 20%...........they make the Mc Donald legend. Tiger | castleford tiger
02/10/2017 22:51 | Davidosh there's been numerous sensible comments on here, I really struggle to see any positives for Craw going forward. The executive team have ALL bolted (and not been replaced) leaving the two highest earners with absolutely no experience in the meat industry running the show. You couldn't make it up really, three stores with 1 star food safety this year, another store got 2 star food safety in August just gone. The 2sisters debacle will only carry on & on. Castleford Tiger says all the residual stock is going into Craw. is that really the way forward ?LFL's are minus on minus we all know that is not acceptable in the discounters world I could go on & on | owletta |
