29/4/2005 08:22 | Maybe a trough andreab, but the BDI was down another 105 to 3,921 yesterday. Glad to be out at the moment. | rivaldo
28/4/2005 08:40 | Evergreen: ``America's demand for China-made goods is still strong,'' Wang said. He has a ``buy'' recommendation on Evergreen Marine. About 80 percent of global trade is carried by sea. | andrbea
28/4/2005 08:37 | just a trough in a cycle? Freight rates for Capesizes, the largest dry-bulk ships, fell to a 10-week low for trips to China from Australia, the world's biggest coal and iron-ore exporter. Costs dropped to $15.38 a metric ton, down 1 percent from April 22, according to the Baltic Exchange. Capesizes can carry as much as 170,000 tons. ``There's a problem of over-tonnage in some sectors at the moment,'' Oatway said. ``This is just a short-term weakness. Overall demand remains firm.'' | andrbea
28/4/2005 08:28 | The BDI is down another 146 to 4,026, and has been around 100 down every day this week. Interesting not only fot itself, but its implications. | rivaldo
27/4/2005 15:00 | The BDI is collapsing, down to 4,172 now. Note my comment above about resolve - well, that resolve didn't last long!(though I have held CKN for a long time). I've sold all my shares. They were in ISAs, so no tax complications. And I just can't see the price going anywhere but down at present. The markets are terrible, I've been selling off some of my holdings, I can't see an impetus for a rise till specific news, CKN is fairly volatile and the AGM is some way off - so better out than in. CKN is still cheap imo, but better safe than sorry at the moment. Good luck all. | rivaldo
22/4/2005 15:20 | Thanks for doing that Rivaldo - good to read it and beyond even Cat's forecast. :0). One of the good things with this one is it can be held in an ISA and pays a fair dividend as well. | doubleorquits
22/4/2005 07:44 | BDI down yesterday to just over 4500. But even this level will deliver strong returns for CKN. Struggling to find anything else whiah I consider as good value at the moment and so happy holding. Good to see your posts again Andrbea as they do give a good sector overview, Yogi. | yogi
20/4/2005 17:57 | I see that the float is planned for 3rd of May (new sector play on Aim) Global Oceanic Carriers Limited | andrbea
20/4/2005 13:01 | 100,000 shares at 879.24p gone through on a B trade. Meaningful at all? Perhaps the clearance of an overhang prompting a bit of a rally? | rivaldo
20/4/2005 09:47 | Yo-yoing around - up again today. Seems like good support below £9 or so (though the BDI was down to 4,735 yesterday). Any hint of good news could send CKN beyond £10 imo. | rivaldo
19/4/2005 10:05 | as for commodities, take the long-term demand for coal (as an example) "Coal is a basic energy recourse of China in times of heavy industry, with the increasing demand for coal, strategic reserves is demanded for a rainy day. In the past two years, China Development Research Center of Coal Industry has conducted a profound investigation into the development of China's coal industry. The survey indicates that the demand for coal in China will reach 2.6 billion tons by 2020, an increase of 56% over that of 2003." | andrbea
19/4/2005 09:55 | another snippet rivaldo: "Some analysts also warn that sea traffic growth on the mainland will slow, pressuring handling charges and cargo rates on expectations of slower world and Chinese economic growth. But Tim Huxley, managing director at ship broker Clarkson Asia Ltd., said industry insiders remained upbeat. "There isn't any immediate sign of slowdown," he said. Global container supply is seen rising more than 12 percent this year and about 15 percent next year, exceeding the estimated demand growth of 10 percent this year and 9.7 percent next year, according to Clarkson. " | andrbea
19/4/2005 09:42 | Thx andrbea, just shows that the freight boom is expected to continue for a while yet. The BDI was down fractionally yesterday, 25 to 4,810. But the week's Galbraiths reports are extremely promising. The BDI components look firm, with a very positive overview on extra grain demand for the next year, whilst in VLCC: "A week signified by steady demand for tonnage, both old and new, has seen rates sustained and raised depending on dates and ship type." With CKN being on such a cheap rating, freight rates firm, CKN diversifying nicely, possible bid speculation and the certainty of a huge profit in H1 2005 on a ship sale I'm happy to stick with CKN. | rivaldo
18/4/2005 15:07 | sector interest "goc" | andrbea
18/4/2005 11:22 | Amazing how CKN is driven by lemmings who seem to trade in or out on the first sign of a drop or a rise. Anyway, the BDI is up once more, 11 points to 4,835. | rivaldo
15/4/2005 13:12 | Thanks very much Jeremy | banjo1111
15/4/2005 10:30 | Banjo, As was mentioned in a previous post (can't find it, so don't know whom to give the credit to), you can follow the BDI using this link: It shows just how high the BDI has been all year in historical terms and is one reason I am continuing to hold these shares which I first bought at £3.30 jeremy | jeremyness
15/4/2005 09:41 | Rivaldo, is there anywhere I can monitor the BDI for free? Thanks for your help. Banjo | banjo1111
15/4/2005 08:48 | CKN shares drooping slightly with the market, but the BDI continues to rise, up another 20 to 4,824. | rivaldo
14/4/2005 08:06 | BDI accelerating now, up 51 to 4,804. | rivaldo
13/4/2005 15:43 | True... The BDI was up again yesterday, 32 points to 4,753. | rivaldo
12/4/2005 17:51 | A quiet thread bodes well. | cat |
