08/4/2005 15:25 | Good to see you are still in Daviemac. BDI currently at 4699 - seems to be steady in the 4600 - 4800 range recently which is a good average level. | yogi
07/4/2005 17:52 | I'm still hanging in here. Been holding these since they were 184p. Think there is more upside to come. | daviemac
07/4/2005 16:31 | Been quite here for last while - has everyone sold out. Well I'm still in and believe these are still good value albeit I was curious to the level of bonus that is being paid out in February. Good rise so far today and hoping for a significant rise going forward, Yogi. | yogi
30/3/2005 13:39 | Looks as though at a director see the current share levels as a high water mark for now - given today's sale. | sandbank
27/3/2005 12:50 | Well done Idioterna! However, if you want to follow the comments I suggest you read the post by doubleorquits (#2000, the one before yours) or follow this link: | lauders
24/3/2005 23:55 | What a fantastic suprise! I've been away (stationed a long way from internet) for a couple of years now. Bought 2000 CKN @ 187.25 on 1st nov 01 so guess how happy I am! I was pretty convinced that the activity in the Far East would push freight prices higher but never dreamed of a nigh-on 500% rise in 4 years for CKN! Sustainable? Perhaps... Either way I'll be hanging onto mine for the future. With these dividends I'll be in profit whatever happens to the share price within 3 years! | idioterna
20/3/2005 08:56 | A bit more publicity from Yahoo: "Clarkson completes buy of Ferrobulk for initial 4.2 mln stg LONDON (AFX) - Clarkson PLC (LSE: CKN.L - news) said it completed the purchase of the Ferrobulk group of companies for an initial 4.2 mln stg in cash and shares. It will pay 3.4 mln stg in cash and 0.8 mln stg through the issue of 86,234 new shares to buy the Genoa, Italy-based privately owned shipbroker. Ferrobulk had a post tax profit of 0.5 mln stg in the year to end December 2004 and net assets of 1.1 mln stg at that date. As indicated in a Jan 12 announcement, Clarkson's Italian business,Clarksons Italia, will be merged with Ferrobulk." | rivaldo
19/3/2005 08:12 | Looks like EVO's forecasts will have to be upgraded again! In case anyone missed last night's RNS: The acquisition: - is on an initial P/E of only 8.4 - is immediately highly earnings-enhancing as 80% paid for in cash - and CKN get £1.1m of assets If Ferrobulk's profits remain only static (in which case I assume no deferred consideration), I calculate EVO's forecasts for CKN should increase to: Y/E 31/12/05 - EPS 103.8p Y/E 31/12/06 - EPS 115.1p Excellent! | rivaldo
18/3/2005 15:06 | Also, some punters may not like huge amounts of their shares in one stock after holding from around £2. I've top sliced 20% 'cos I want more than just paper profits! :-) still a happy holder of the rest... | edmundshaw
18/3/2005 14:11 | PETER SHAERF: Historically if you look at, say, Capesize (too big for the Panama Canal) a 150,000 ton ship to move a lot of coal - they moved from an average of $20,000 a day up to a rate of $80,000 to $100,000 a day. Panamax bulk carriers, 50,000 to 60,000 tons (the largest ship that can fit through the Panama Canal) were averaging around $7,000 to $10,000 a day in 2002, early 2003 they are now in the $50,000 a day range. That just gives you the order of magnitude. On the tanker side we had very large crude carriers (VLCCs) a couple of years ago getting $20,000 a day - they reached a high in November 2004 at $250,000 a day. They dropped precipitously by Christmas to around $30,000 to $40,000, then back up to $100,000 and back down to $30,000. They are back at about $80,000 to $90,000 a day now. It's not for the faint of heart! " | andrbea
18/3/2005 14:00 | rivaldo EVO seem to be forecasting a cut in dividend, 25p this year, 22.5 forecast for next 2 years. | tykeno1
18/3/2005 13:57 | Rivaldo, it won't open for me either! Not the first time that's happened on the EVO site. | lafiamma
18/3/2005 12:33 | EVO have new forecasts out and a Buy rec for CKN. Now get this: Y/E 31/12/05 - PBT £24.9m, EPS 101.9p, divi 22.5p Y/E 31/12/06 - PBT £26.9m, EPS 112.7p, divi 22.5p Apart from how cheap this makes CKN imo, what strikes me is that they're for the first time apparently happy to forecast growth 2 years down the road. They've evidently accepted both that CKN is well diversified now and not so exposed to freight rate movements, and/or maybe that high freight rates are here to stay. The note's on the EVO web site in PDF stylee, but it won't bleeding open for me. Anyone else have better luck? If CKN's growth path is now clearer and accepted, that surely merits a re-rating to a P/E of 12-13 rather than the current 9.6? | rivaldo
17/3/2005 20:15 | Been this way before with this share, I will not sell great hold for 12-18 months. Will add on dips. | rogerbridge
17/3/2005 14:55 | It just looked factual to me. | buffin
17/3/2005 13:59 | Thanks for finding that rivaldo. I nearly changed my mind and sold, then I saw that and realised that I would be foolish to do so. This will rise again when the papers write it up. The price has steadied now and I am off for the weekend. Perhaps a resumption of the steady rise next week? | hawks11
17/3/2005 12:17 | Nice big article in Lloyds List about the strength of the company and the positive outlook: | rivaldo
17/3/2005 11:06 | I think the phrase "giving up some of yesterday's gains" springs to mind... IMO some are panicking and selling out at the first sign of a drop when everything about the business says hold if you already own and good value if you don't. Shame it was Budget day yesterday, absolutely no CKN coverage in the papers as far as I can see. Maybe the share mags will come forward. There was such good business being transacted yesterday at around the 980p mark that I believe there are still big buyers out there ready to buy in to CKN. | rivaldo
17/3/2005 05:40 | Not sure if you will all agree, but perhaps it is better to stop this thread and use the other one? Looks like most use the other one and only a few post here from time to time. It would make life much simpler and logical to only keep one thread going. Just an idea ;-) | lauders
16/3/2005 23:45 | I like the strong start to the year and the statement highlighted in the Tradeswind article: "With team expansion and firming rates in LPG/ammonia we expect to significantly grow our income in this market sector during the coming year." That word "significantly" always hints at very positive things in my book when used in an outlook statement. | doubleorquits
16/3/2005 23:33 | Just got back, fantastic day, well done CKN | cambium
16/3/2005 23:05 | Edmund - Praps everyone's sold out? ! £11.45 :-) | cat
16/3/2005 18:05 | isnt life good regards james. | james111 |
