Good. Plenty more fat to cut. Only way to compete is by reducing costs. Hopefully they won't just employ contractors at high rates to cover the perm fte losses - as happens usually. Big reduction in high paid senior manager positions still required across the company.

I wonder the method used to determine these target prices.

Is it based on fundamentals,(profitability, cash flow, future prospects)
or just technical analysis.(algo's following curve trends, sentiment,) ?

Sometimes I become really cynical and suspect they issue 'conviction sell' notes because they wish to close an in house short position and go long.

Some of my best successes have been when I had the courage to buy when Goldman issued a 'conviction sell' note.
Glencore at below £1 was an example, also, way back Severn Trent at £9.

Are these people acting in good faith?

A little story for you but applies more to AIM stocks but in some way could filter up to the FTSE but in more of an institutional way.....When stocks and especially AIM start to make worrying moves I would simply put in a call to the LSE asking for some kind of clarification and should there be an announcement made . More often than not you'd get an RNS that day. As I say that applies more to AIM but a similar thing could be said for CNA. Please be mindful if an institution has been given the heads up by CNA in no way can they instigate business and believe me if they do the consequences are severe.I'm of for a boozy lunch in the City now.Good luck

The saying "It's better to travel than arrive" often rings true in the City. The market works in reverse and if definitely preempting bad news. If Conn was to fall on his sword and the divi reduced we could then take out the uncertainty and move forward.I fear Mr Conn doesn't fully understand the inner workings of the City though!!

You could see them below the 110 mark as they'll stop people out. Might be worth holding out for a bit. As I've just said Conn will be fully aware of these price movements and will be making an announcement shortly. IMHO

These movements will force Conn into making an announcement. The sooner the better in my view. Sorry about my Thursday / Friday rally prediction..... oh well !!!

The time to buy is when we hear good news and not before. I've been saying that for 5 years. The S&P have given Centrica a positive outlook for the first time in 3 years. This may be the time to buy. I wasn't going to say anything but I added this morning at 111.825p Admittedly I'm gambling on the divi being held but I believe it's a fair gamble that it will hold .

DiscoDave4 : Well done..your patience has paid off. You've achieved your 'ten pips' this a.m. My first broker's stock (no pun intended!)phrase was 'look for a nimble nine pence and leave a little for the next man'..which appears to be in line with your approach.Regarding your previous posts....I can well understand your doubts and misgivings in the greed driven world that unfortunately is today. Rest assured I have no insider information..although I have noted recent Director purchases (one for 40,000)so presumably they have some knowledge of the current situation. My switch( which as it happens is effective from today) is purely as a result of ML's research. As for possible t/over rumours DYOR ..going back to Gazprom in 2006.I have no intention to mislead ...what's the point? Hedgies have far more financial clout to influence than I have.It would also be idiotic to think that a post on an ADVFN BB would substantially move the share price ..although it wouldn't surprise if some posters are salaried for this purpose. As for me.... I do not day trade.I do not look at the share price ad infinitum. My stake is an investment.Fortunately , I have not been holding CNA for many years. For what it's worth my average share price is 137.25, not accounting for dividends received. That's it .......'take it or leave it'.

Mark - I'm holding as well because of the 10.75% yield. It's so large that it's going to pay my council tax this year. The dividend will hold in my opinion. Good Luck.

Is this because of the Jeremy Corbyn factor? I am holding on here and will not sell but this is hard to swallow. The market prices cna at 100ish now but 200 300 400 a few years ago. Pure manipulation. Pure stupidity. There never seems to be a bottom here. Chart looks atrocious. Why is cna always getting such a walloping? More so than sse for instance.

Both Moodys and the S&P have rated cna 'Stable' with a positive outlook for the first time in 3 years.
This may be the time to load the boat ?
But I really haven't got a clue.
Todays drop may be related to the price of gas.

Good Luck.
