Spoke to the CIO friend of a wealth management firm in the city 10 billion under management. He advised CNA was issued as a sell to clients Sept last year. CNA is not a share they are taking any interest in so could not comment at this price. On a positive note he is not so sure all bond proxies are dead. He recommended don’t try and buy into anything until matters settle down. He called the short vix products some poor investors went into be called short cubed , needs no further explanation !!

Just looking at a lot of the shares today when I was sat in front of the screen, there were a lot of opportunities to make some good money if you had the nerve for it.

Will be interesting to see how tomorrow starts, or should I say how the US markets end tonight which might give us an insight into how tomorrow or possibly the rest of the week plays out.

You do have to wonder though, that when everyone kept talking about a Correction, whether on the boards, share and news sites that it wasn't actually brought to the forefront of everyones mind and it actually made it happen, because of how the markets were going. If no one had made mention of it at all, would the correction have happened anyway?

It's like that 50/50 choice. If we had or hadn't said it, would it or wouldn't it have happened. ;)

Investing.com - Natural gas futures extended recent losses to hit their lowest level in around six weeks on Tuesday, after weather forecasts showed that temperatures across key parts of the U.S. won't be as cold as previously expected.Front-month U.S. natural gas futures slumped 4.5 cents, or around 1.6%, to $2.703 per million British thermal units (btu) by 8:55AM ET (1355GMT). It fell to its worst level since Dec. 27 at $2.699 earlier in the session. The commodity sank roughly 10.0 cents, or 3.5%, on Monday, its fifth losing session in a row, amid forecasts for less heating demand in the near term.Updated weather forecasting models showed that temperatures won't be as cold as previously expected through both the upcoming six- to 10-day and eight- to 14-day periods.Bearish speculators are betting that the mild weather will reduce winter demand for the heating fuel. The heating season from November through March is the peak demand period for U.S. gas consumption.Meanwhile, market participants looked ahead to this week's storage data due on Thursday, which is expected to show a draw in a range between 107 and 122 billion cubic feet (bcf) in the week ended Feb. 2.That compares with a decline of 99 bcf in the preceding week, a fall of 152 bcf a year earlier and a five-year average drop of 151 bcf.Total natural gas in storage currently stands at 2.197 trillion cubic feet (tcf), according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. That figure is 526 bcf, or around 19.3%, lower than levels at this time a year ago and 425 bcf, or roughly 16.2%, below the five-year average for this time of year.

CNA's got its own set of worries, none of which is related to the US market.

RMG had its own set of worries as well, then they got dealt with, although not in their entirety, but that was enough to change sentiment by 30%.

That article seems perfectly clear to me. la la la la, la la la la...

I must look back and see what all the pundits were saying in 1998, 2003 and at the peak of the recession.

I wonder if loads of them said 'now is the time to put your money into the market', although I think I can probably count them on one finger.

That reminds me of one of those film clips, where someone starts talking to you and you go off on a Day Dream and all you hear is, "Blah, Blah, BLAAAH, Blahh Blahhhh Blahhh" and you start thinking about Ice Cream.

Anyway, enough from me, it's over to him. Off for me Child Learning Week. Have fun peeps.

Clear as mud to an idiot like me :-)

This Sell-Off Begs the Question - We don't doubt that inflation fears and higher
rates gave investors pause and caused selling pressure at the end of last week and
today. However, the market sell-off today has been reported by news outlets (including Bloomberg) as more technical and quant-driven. Did a crowded short-vol trade exacerbate the sell-off?

Short VIX/volatility is essentially a levered long market position. A VIX spike past a certain level could have caused outflows and/or covering on short vol trades, which then in turn causes more market selling and higher implied volatility -- a "vicious cycle" to an extent. It's impossible to know how many assets were tied to short vol strategies precisely, so this is a wait-and-see until we get further details

I hope there isn't too much excitement while I'm away doing Children Learning week. Just so happens to be when the US markets open so will have to wait until I get back to see if anything exciting happened.

Have fun all and hope not too much hair ends up on the floor. ;)
