Will Cellcast have any Freesat channels or be applying for them?

"Freesat confirms launch date as May 6
Wednesday, April 30 2008, 12:31 BST
By Dave West, Media Correspondent

The launch date for subscription-free satellite service Freesat has been confirmed as May 6.

The service, developed by the BBC and ITV, is designed to encourage takeup of free to air satellite in a manner similar to the success enjoyed by digital terrestrial's Freeview brand. Freesat's electronic programme guide, programme metadata and interactive services will operate entirely independently of those provided to Sky digiboxes, and pre-launch marketing materials from the service indicate that approximately 80 television and radio channels have obtained a Freesat EPG slot for launch - a relatively small proportion of the total number of free satellite TV channels.

Set-top receivers made to the Freesat spec, and to be marketed using the Freesat brand, will include a high definition model made by Humax; non-HD and HD models from Goodmans, Bush and Grundig; and various products from Panasonic. Other manufacturers will be licensed to make receiver products at a later stage.

The launch retailers for the service are Comet, Argos, John Lewis and DSG, whose outlets include Currys and PC World.

Prices are expected to range from around £50 for a standard definition set-top box and £120 for an HD model. Launch retailers will also arrange installation for an additional charge.

None are sanctioned to sell the receivers until May 6, though some people have managed to purchase products and have shared their insights on the Freesat forum.

It is now four months since year end and judging by last years newsflow, we should be expecting finals pretty soon

However, they have until the end of June to release them, so I wonder if they will delay them in hope that they have some better news to release at the same time?

It would be nice to hear of some positive developments that have come from James Brown and his team. Is he still employed? Is he actually working full time on the sumo project?

Hi z1gzag,

It wouldn't hurt to type in the Url would it?

It's a multi-platform hybrid platform that operates as a TV channel on Sky Ch.206, It's website that people post their video-content to, like youtube, but actual channels rather than individual clips; that content is then used on the TV channel (subject to legality)and to a mobile phone service that is available in various parts of the world including south Africa, Israel, France, Australia, etc which are at the moment like mini-Video-on-Demand for clips that last from 30-seconds to a few minutes where Cellcast get paid for each directly as well as users having the option to pay on a buffet/subscription-basis.

Examples of sumo.tv channels include: www.sumo.tv/itv1 or www.sumo.tv/bigjim or www.sumo.tv/bskyb .

The company also recently sold its 2 previous EPG slots for £1.4m, the rest you can see from the first lot of information on this thread.

Yours kindly,

MN

www.sumo.tv has a new look home page.

Hopefully, step one of a brand new look site, lets hope some new functions come soon.

I guess marketing (taylor herring) will begin when everything is up and running.

The future of TV....sky think so...

However Worlds does have some more public ambitious projects in the work as well. One, an interactive TV project with British Sky Broadcasting and CellCast, sounds like it has the potential to revolutionize both reality TV and the way most people look at virtual worlds.

"It's an interactive loop where we feed from the Internet to a broadcast signal that uses multiple avatar angles, so it's a multiple camera shoot," said Kidrin. "Effectively, it's a real-time animation shoot. And then people who look at this interactive television program can log in when they download the client, and then their avatar is in the program being broadcast."

With moderators using VoIP to run the show--Kidrin calls them "Avatar Jockeys"--the environment becomes both programmed and open-ended. Users can interact with SMS messaging to contribute, but Sky is also programming and scripting a number of different shows based on the same platform with different backgrounds and themes.

"It's a way of taking the Internet to a live broadcast," explained Kidrin.

When we spoke with co-Founder Ken Locker about his work with Cookie Jar's television properties he mentioned a project on the Worlds platform set for 2009. Kidrin describes it as "a combination of live action and a virtual world for a TV show and animated sequences that will be on the TV show." Unlike the BskyB project, though, it's not completely interactive.

"It's more, without giving it away, people meeting online and creating something that makes them famous," explained Kidrin. "You're watching passively. Imagine the Monkees."

Either we have city rumours or there is a large order in the background.

By the way...Sumo is starting to show signs of life !

Hi,

Another thing to bear in mind is that, if anyone remembers the original prospectus, a priority from being listed was acquisitions.

In following/lurking this thread from previously, there's been quite a lot of talk/fear about someone taking it out below fair-value. However, the company has a few strategic investors, as others have linked to before; there's also the fact that cltv isn't the EMAP-type of business that can easily be taken by private-equity; but most importantly, it's that entrepreneurship again -the executive/management came to the stock-market for a reason, to build from nothing, to become something much more. Various parties would still want full returns in any take-over.

There are always possibilities of various scenarios and takeovers, the most likely in this case is if the business can't be cash-positive by the end of the year, some would rather it being taken over or quickly moved from administration so it simply survives, but with all the expansion on new income-streams, those risks can be overcome!

Kind regards,

MN

2v2. There are only four market makers - two on 3p and the other two moved up to 3.5p just after 2pm. All have nms of 10,000, which explains why they didn't fill your 50k order.

Perhaps we are seeing a little speculation pre-results?

Hopefully the company are planning to get the results out before the end of next week. I'm not expecting much from the results themselves, but it would be good if they clarify their business model going forward.

Hi,

Davidruk - 21 Apr'08 - 14:01 - 756 of 757

zoo123 - Many thanks for that it was what I needed to know. I'm into quite a few of these shares and the nightmare is someone takes it out at 5p!! Didnt pay more than 10p but it will still hurt loads.

Kind regards Dave

You're welcome Dave.

I wish I had the cash to exploit the value here.

The secret kernal to notice here is that, as long as the main company doesn't over-borrow, and then become indebted itself, essentially the whole UK operations (or non-adult) can go belly-up, and as long as the technology is separated, this company will have a lots of value.

Break it apart:

The technology,
the individual foreign units,
Th JV with a blue-chip VC in the 2nd or so fastest economy
Other operations......

Kind regards,

Hi,

clicky:

Those are the minimum disclosables, but I know that various executives and other comapanies have sub-3%, but those also add up, though since the various loans/conversions there's obviously been an increase in the free float.

Have you got a list of holders in CLTV as I need to work out how many shares in free float.......

Hi dave,

NOTHING!

longer answer, 30% is the threshold for any bid, he's not acting in concert with anybody, the management/executives own the substantial equity already, and are treated as a concert-party, though allowed to wave that condition being treated as such in times of cash-raising.

CLTV does have a blue-chip share-holder register; obviously even rich people can make a mistake, but Neil Craven seems to be doing the ultimate average-down, and no doubt will be equally rewarded -I was ahead of him by about a 1+ year for qxl, for all the good it did me!

Kind regards,

Hi,

CN, I completely agree, see my comment about not being apathetic, these guys are real entrepreneurs.

Rv, I think they're having to move from Sumo.tv being front and centre, to a bit on the back-burner simply to balance the ship on an even keel, and it is a ship -with all the assets it has!

They tried to do a JV for sumo.tv, but because they're not a name-brand, and because of the market timing, they lost out (so far); Anything more immediate, would really be at a knock-down price, and perhaps not worth it.

A small thing to consider is that as a channel that is free-to-view (i.e. no card needed), Sumo.tv will be among the channels providing content on Freesat without any competition from all the bigger pay-tv channels like Bravo, Virgin1, Sky1 etc, so their might be a nominal advantage there.

Yours kindly,

MN/SR
