MN,

Thanks for your views.

A JV for sumo must therefore be their main objective.

An injection of cash and more resources/ skillsets (management) should realise the huge potential for the technology.

It certainly is frustrating.

Hi RV,

It is Frustrating, I agree with much of your diagnosis, maybe a problem of british tech./media.

They have absolutely world-class technology, and even content, but sometimes management themselves don't have faith in their own product - There are so many opportunities, but it's also a question of resources.
No one seems to realise how much the concept of Sumo.tv is like MTV, at it's launch in 1981.

They certainly lack certain skill-sets, but then they have other priorities/skills, and none of the management are fatalistic or apathetic managers.

I couldn't find any details to link smutbox, but my view of concentrating on the adult business, is that when you need money you do what will get you the cash quickly; the problem with that is that it's like "going to your base", when the potential is so much greater and wider, in terms of technology and content.

Taking the easiest path, rarely provides the best solution/return.

Selling/valuing those EPG-slots is pointless, once gone, bye-bye business. Having real operational channels gives the company visibility and experience, even if not yet fully exploited.

I continue to believe that the whole cellcast group can be firing on all it's rockets, subject to priorities.

Kind regards,

MN

Hey

For those that don't know, I now run a marketing consultancy, and one of my clients is just about ready to launch a new prog. In the UK there are free to air very soft live porn channels where the revenue is made by people calling a PRS number to speak to the girls. They have spun off a website and we're testing the program now...

It features:

UK porn stars
Exclusive content (solo, g/g, some b/g)
Daily Updates
50%/10%
Leak-free CCBill tour (designed by the excellent AJ)
CCBill payouts

Would love some of you bishes here to help me test it. There are tools up and I am *told* it's all working!

So, please have a go, and hit me up if you need any special promo content done. Already booked in a freeones shoot, so if anyone needs anything else let me know. Any questions, let me know.

My theory, was that cellcast are too small to do the technology justice.

"to bring in enough money to overcome lost income from the EGP slot downgrade and the new OFCOM regulation about to come in?"

Having viewed viewing figures for a few months, I dont believe the channel was bringing in much revenue, other than advertising.

Cellcast had 22k viewers a week at the slot, whilst Nuts tv, positioned higher up the epg, at channel 205, has consistently 80k viewers per week.

Personally, I have always thought that the sumo "live" formats would be best served in bite size chunks of 30 mins to 1 hour, once or twice a week, or alternatively built into programmes (chat shows etc). NOT 24 hours a day, everyday. In other words a large broacaster could find the UGC sumo technology a very interesting way of gaining new revenue from old and new formats, plus they could take content (including existing foramts/ productions) cross platform.

"saving money and going B2B, so large, more powerful and wealthy broadcasters can benefit from the great technology and formats"

Well, yes that's the theory, but do we have any evidence that the technology and formats are 'great' enough to bring in enough money to overcome lost income from the EGP slot downgrade and the new OFCOM regulation about to come in?

Hi RV

You seem to have discovered quite a few Cellcast websites - would you be able to post a list of the sites you think Cellcast own?

I'd like to post a thread with the alexa figures - just to get the info together and track the progress of the sites. A bit like this one I did for MDC years ago:

Cheers

Yes, something going on. Is it just that they are doing it on the cheap now that they have moved down the channels?

SumoTV show over :(

Hey guys,

Just a quick note to let you know that unfortunately my work with SumoTV is over! The channel has changed and they have decided to cut live shows and will be mainly buying in TV shows and old films. Its all been a bit last minute on them doing so and theyve also changed their channel number etc etc.

Fun while it lasted! Ah well!"

Looks like they have immediately reacted to the ofcom call by replacing party people by text2date.

They have to abide and show willing. A good and, as usual, rapid response by Cellcast.

Lets hope the consultations go well.

I would expect new formats will be developed over the consultation period.
