Pierre,

Many thanks for your response. I had never heard of that before. I have over the years booked many cruises usually five to six months before the ship sails with P&O where the OBC is increased with a deadline of usually about six to eight weeks about four months before the cruise commences. With regards to this cruise it was an additional spend plus a deluxe as against a standard cabin thrown in. I booked the following morning first thing and booked the cruise. The P&O employee at first queried it then had to speak to her boss who are a short pause cleared it. The offer did not last long on public view. The shareholder perk surely has nothing to-do with any other offers that P&O have agreed to offer to all customers. So what's the point of being a shareholder?

Thanks S

Sardine, I've never heard of that before. Then again, I never had a promo with obc included. I think there are some circumstances where shareholder obc may not apply, like when the cruise is part of a package of flights, hotel and cruise or when the ship is chartered and the agency takes the risk. (There's one of those being sold ATM by Imagine, the one with Anton du bec and a couple of other celebrities, on Sky Princess).

Be warned.

Booked a cruise on Arcadia for 16 nights for Nov/Dec 24 in August. We had to book by a date, I think, in Sept and we would get a balcony upgrade to deluxe balcony plus an approx additional £200 obc . Put in for shareholder benefit £150 obc with StockPerks last Thursday. Very quick response, received yesterday, I was informed that
we had got it then today received notification that we could not have it as we got that additional spend in the promotion. Surely this can’t be right.
Delighted at the steady increase in the share price.
Convinced the next major resistance is in the region of 16.00 and then 18.00. Any ideas?

Yes, 2 years ago ships were sailing with empty cabins. The debt was a worry too.Last year things turned round after Covid and now earnings are showing as improved and causing the share price to rise. Fuel prices are pretty good at the moment also.Fair wind at present

Agree long term you should get a decent return even from here. Having said that the share price is the same as over 2 years ago

I agree more to come but opinion is what makes a market. When you see Carnival has 43pc of the cruise market and has sold half of its cabins for next years cruises, it's a good sign. The bigger ships allow more cruisers and most would say costs have been trimmed onboard.Us cruisers know how the add ons of balconies, drinks packages, premium dining and trips can substantially boost profits.Looks very positive to me.

That is precisely why I top slice if the price drops you have the cash to buy again if the price rises your free shares ride the rise and you have the cash to invest elsewhere or buy back in if you think the price will rise or settles in a trading range.
Does not always work that well, I have 2000 free shares in VRS which when I top sliced were worth £1600 now the value of them is £1.00 but mainly it has worked well for me.

It has always been that way having the discipline to sell at the right time. You never get in at the bottom and out at the top.

Hardest is when to sell. Sometimes I'm ruthless like my recent trade l just set a profit target, when you get greedy it can backfire like my May ISA trade, which is still open.

I found market volatility/MM price manipulation was opening up positions or closing positions with my limit orders which I didn't want. Have never used trailing stops, perhaps a better approach.

Thanks Sam for those thoughts. Appreciated. All valid trading strategies but I follow a different approach now. I keep a very close eye on my portfolio and take a position or Exit completely depending on my view about price trend/turning points. I closely monitor about 20 equities & don't use buy or sell limit orders any more holding max 5 equities at a time. My ISA-based portfolio is now about 20yrs of compounded, annual max subscriptions so its a reasonable size & I can just about handle this simplistic approach whilst minimising risk to it.
