Carnival Corp: Shaping Up Value, Shipping Out Debt
- Carnival Corp. has effectively managed debt and improved performance, despite high interest rates with debt falling 10% y/y and interest expenses falling 15% y/y.
- Management's focus on transferring value from debt holders to shareholders has resulted in significant EBITDA growth and debt reduction.
- Carnival's net yields and adjusted cruise costs are projected to normalize, supporting further EBITDA margin expansion and shareholder returns.
- Interest rate risks remain, but Carnival's management is expected to navigate these challenges successfully, maintaining an attractive investment outlook.
On the call, management said they are targeting a debt leverage of 3.8x, which gets the company closer to their pre-pandemic debt leverage ranges of ~3x to navigate Carnival towards a highly favorable capital structure. |
Well worth a read.
Behind the scenes on Carnival’s new $600 million private cruise island
Celebration Key, based in Grand Bahama, will welcome cruise passengers with an inaugural visit from Carnival Vista on 19 July. |
Morningstar has recommended a 'BUY' call for Carnival Corp (CCL), the world’s largest global cruise operator, based on favorable medium-term prospects and a fair value estimate of $31 per share. |
Analysts at Stifel Financial called the selling in cruise stocks a "massive overreaction," and recommended investors use the slump to buy the names "on weakness."
"[T]his is probably the tenth time in the last 15 years we have seen a politician (or other D.C. bureaucrat) talk about changing the tax structure of the cruise industry," wrote analysts led by Steven Wieczynski. "Each time it was presented, it didn't get very far."
"[F]om a tax standpoint the cruise industry is embedded under the cargo industry in the eyes of the Internal Revenue Service," Stifel wrote. "That would mean the entire cargo industry would have to be turned upside down even before they got to the cruise industry, which is a sliver of the size of the cargo industry." |

Celebration Key will officially open in five months when Carnival Vista completes the inaugural call on July 19, 2025. |
Anyone here booked Celebration Key? |
I was hoping they would call debt and actually pay down but I've not seen that to date. Maybe 2nd/3rd quarter. |
If/when this starts paying a divi again I expect there'll be a price step up. We were booked with a group booking on queen vic next feb at £100pppd balcony which unfortunately was cancelled due to Cunard saying price had increased since the original quote - so the no mess around leader cancelled the trip and is looking for another (for a dancing group). Anyhow, just on a special (probably due to lots of reserved cabins becoming available again), the same cruise is back to 1400 quid. So me and the mrs snapped that one up. Longish wait, but looking forward to escaping next feb's weather and going to the warm Canaries) |

So that's $143m in interest savings declared by CCL if you look at my previous posts. |
Morgan Stanley raises Carnival price target to 2,000 (1,750) pence - 'underweight' |
Can't use the obc in the casino. Not for medical stuff. But everything else is ok to use obc. At the end of cruises I've seen people buying 30 toblerones or stripping out all the toothbrushes left in the shop. If you want a real ripoff toffeeman, then buy a drinks package (or get a fare including drinks). Each to their own. |
I really don't get OBC - decent cruises include decent drinks/restaurants and it's much better to self-organise trips rather than utilise the over-priced over-crowded bus journeys to sh1tsville. What can you use OBC for - the casino to give it all back?

Try EXPLORA current cruise 50% occupancy v laid back. |
Pans Dont get me wrong Iona is a lovely ship, it is just that what we have always had on previous cruises all companies Princess, P&O, RCL, MSC, NCL, Cunard, set dining, free to use sauna, not booking to see a show, different show each night, not the same show 2 nights on the trot so all guests can see because the theatre is not big enough to accommodate all guests in 2 shows in one night. Due to the bad weather (not P&Os fault) we had in the Canaries last year on Iona all guests were inside for most of the time which meant that there was nowhere to sit quietly just people and noise everywhere, on about 7 or 8 nights by about 9 0clock we were just peopled out so went to the cabin and watched a film not what we normally do on a cruise.

Thanks for posting Sam As a long standing celebrity fan l can confirm a lot of this feedback My take on it is simply this that demand is outstripping supply particularly around the Med and they are pricing / reducing add ons where they can reasonably get away with it.Also to attract you they are keeping the upfront prices lowish and hitting you with the extras |
To be honest l like lona and Arvia and the main restaurants /options are reasonable given the unbelievable prices they ( were) offering. Rooms fine too.The problem is to make them work effectively they've got to get them up towards full capacity which makes them feel a little oppressive together with the clientele this attracts at entry level price points.Behaviour an increasing probs |
