Good call.
I'm loving this as a strong short.
I see 30p (£100m M/C) coming pretty quickly - and just wait until the normal divi is axed and they break banking covenants- the end .

Minerve , decided the same 12 months ago . Nothings seems to be changing.
Website got a few good "silly" gift ideas. Not sure how its being marketed though to gain max traction. Maybe they need to advertise it more instore.

The problem with Card Factory - amongst other things - is that it relies on the attraction of other shops around it to get its footfall. In other words: no one is going to make a special journey from home to buy a card from Card Factory and then to return back home - it will be one of the destinations in a list of shops. If the other list of shops is narrowing in choice or closing then this affects Card Factory. Busy people will make trips to local convenience stores rather than town centres. Parking is quick, do it in the evening or on the way home from work, and whilst they are getting their chocolate, crisps, coffee, milk and loaf of bread they will buy the greetings card. The main competition for Card Factory comes from the supermarkets and the convenience stores IMO.

To be honest, I neither understand this market enough nor have the desire to look further to be certain of my opinion. It is just a general gut feeling based on a week or two of ad hoc/piecemeal research.

Card Factory will have their niche locations which will deliver good returns if they manage their estate well. Growth for growth sake could put a lead weight on what could still be a very good income generating stock.

well Stevie at least they have hxxps://www.gettingpersonal.co.uk/ which is somewhat broad - not just cards. What this company needs is an injection of trust from upper management. Buying 10k shares is nothing.

I note management aren't very clear on what percentage of revenue online sales is. Just like they were not clear on recent LFL and debt during the last trading update. My guess is 1-2% (could be wrong) which means a 14% rise is negligible.

SP below 92p is that a new low ?
That'll teach UKNEON not to take his wife away on holiday....

When he looks that up - will he be turning to his wife and telling her to get the Easter Cards early using their website ?

That'll probably smash the +14% on their own !

14% of what ?

I have seen that M&S now stock cards for £1.
M&S !

So the value card option is not exclusive to CARD any more

Card is speciality retailer, so CARD is CARD, works & others may have more other products etc, but if you want a card you have biggest choice, more personalisation options, best price range, and accessories. This is basically a FOCUS strategy if you go by Porters five forces and competitive advantage, others may at times bite on heals, but CARD has a place for key segments and categories of shopper.

I think it's too early to tell, my hopes are the management will look more into outreach and partnership deals, there core product will always be big demand, but it may be a better route to market to work with events/wedding companies, Universities, corporate functions etc, and slim down high street to best performing stores in key locations.

Also website had 14% growth, so again there is a business here, just needs a few changes, fingers crossed for all holders. I'm not selling!

Big debt pile, falling profits for 4 years straight and increasing costs. I really don't understand the investment case here.

I think that the biggest issue here is that Mrs UKNEONBOY is not around to stock up on family occasion greetings cards. Without that huge fillip to trade, I foresee continuing woes ahead.
