Significant that Morgan Stanley bought 5%. Anyone else wondering if they've heard on the grapevine that either a PE buyout or positive news on a US is on the cards?

I'm also thinking that now is about the right time for a trading update, half way between interim and next FY results. I'd like to know how much cash has come in from litigation cases and how much more they've invested. Shouldn't be too much effort for them to do this

Donald, interesting comments. I still don't exactly follow why it should be such a problem, why can't Burford just accept whatever reporting methodology the US want? Also, in the absence of a US listing to get to £30 - I'd love to think you are right but it's a pretty bold call (unless there was a takeover in which case I certainly agree it's possible to get that high) - I mean we were struggling at £18 max most of the time even before MW so it would take quite an improvement in sentiment to get up to £30 so quickly.

The US listing is not straightforward as the US have different listing rules for financing companies and investment companies, and BUR falls between them. So whether it can be listed appears to depend upon whether it can agree with the SEC how it should report. As it has no peers there is no established approach. They may or may not be able to agree an approach, I have no idea. If they do I think there will be an immediate rerate as the US investors have huge pools of money and will understand the risk/reward and corporate governance here (the irony is that most of the criticisms that MW levied in that regard reflected that BUR follows standard US corporate governance rather than UK). But in the long term it doesn't matter. BUR will be valued according to its profits and cash generation, and I expect the share price to be £30 within 2 years, possibly significantly higher if Petersen settles.

But if a US listing were to fail surely that would badly knock confidence and look relaly bad? Why do you think there won't be a US listing?

I think we have now exceeded the previous post-MW highs. For those of us who have been patient it has been a difficult period and a long wait, but hopefully finally paying off.

It is difficult to see why anyone would want an open short here when the share price has now doubled from the intraday low of the big drop. 2 months on, no further revelations, looks like business as usual. I'm not convinced there will be a US listing, but while that is preferable, it isn't necessary. Should get news on new directors soon though that won't be price changing imo.

Certainly looks like it and we are now testing post-MW highs

There really is no reason why this can't go all the way back to all time highs. Sentiment has been damaged but equally, the Woodford overhang appears to have gone. This is still a business where profits are growing at 40% pa, where every set of results smashes expectations...you guys know the script.

Yes molatov, although I don't try to make precise predictions of when and how much it coiuld go up, I do think that in general terms the chart looks good, and I like the way the price forced its way back up today after the dip, and the whole overall shape just looks really nice. It does feel like we may be finally turning the corner, hopefully people have now calmed down from the initial shock of MW and can see there are no more claims emerging, things are settling down, Woodford stake looks like it has been or is being sorted out and American listing hopfully happening soon, the Argentina issue has been debunked by Burford explaining that even a debt default wouldn't make much difference to litgation claim collections. Of course nothing is ever risk free and theoretically something could go wrong with Petersen or whatever, but hopefully people are just calming down now and reassessing and starting to realise that the whole MW saga is mostly nonsensical and Burford is just madly underpriced. Will certainly be interesting to see what happens from here. Best of luck to all holders!

I wonder if BUR will be bringing a passing off action against MW about those bags that had the "Burford Capital" name and logo on them? BUR have trade marks - dependent on the category I suppose.

Morgan Stanley increased and Woodford's reduced shareholding seems to have reduced short term anxiety.

dgdg1...great minds think alike obviously!

I would even go further and say that if I breaks 900p then it probably will kick on to 1000p as the hordes descend on what will be a pretty easy trade to convince yourself of. It's a traders dream potentially.
