I am not familiar enough with the detail to able to comment on MW’s points about specific cases. Maybe these have some merit. However, the point they make about accounting for realised vs fair value gains is clearly nonsensical. They are objecting to the fact that when Burford realise an investment and receive the cash, they now recognise the gain as realised rather than as a fair value gain (by reporting the full realised gain from the whole investment and subtracting the amount that they had previously recognised as fair value). How is this wrong?

Makes me v suspicious of the rest of what they are saying...
