Today's announcement on their new smart meter gaining regulatory approval is a very significant step in establishing BGBL as a market leader in a market that has massive growth potential.

you are never going to win them all. but increased exposure for smart meters will benefit BGBL.

I would guess BG will farm out some of the work to BGlobal - it is a huge contract and there surely must be some good pickings for bgbl from this.

From the Timesonline

"British Gas, which replaces 850,000 old or faulty meters a year, intends to develop its meters to an open standard, which it will share with its competitors. Mr Peters said: "The sooner we start, the sooner we will finish. The costs of installation will be lower if we can do it over a shorter period." A new company within British Gas will be set up later this year, which is expected to create 2,500 new jobs with a range of skills from meter fitters to home energy advisers.

British Gas customers who want a smart meter will be able to request one from 2011. Before that, the company plans to install the meters across a broad span of customer types: these will include families with children at home all day, retired people, professional people who are out all day, low-income families and high earners. "

I was wondering whether it would be easier for BG, or someone else, just to take over BGBL as the foundation of a start up business.

Looks like BGBL is too small for such a large contract - but the contract for supplying business based meters is decent enough.

Whats the likelihood of Landis+Gyr seeking to acquire BGlobal?

They have a contract with BG for schools - presumably some extra consultancy type work will come their way from this.

This is a VERY good announcement for BGBL, previous announcement said 100,000 meters

ay.

This will literally Be Global one day and then we will all be wishing we had put any reservations in the kitchen drawer.

The quality of their contracts speaks volumes: BG and nPower will not have chosen BGBL as their supplier blindly. This one will just grow and grow. They need to be careful that they manage working capital adequately and don't over-extend on capital expenditure but when this snowball stops rolling I am fairly confident we will have a mammoth enterprise.

The growth of Capita as a service provider in the 90's springs to mind as a comparable business growth model.

ok. i always get a little suspicious when a company hardly ever announces news. .like they are trying too hard to hide no prospects.

leluot - bought my 3rd tranche after the last T/S too having bought in with the first 2 around 22p. I think the main thing for me is the high demand BGBL are enjoying. Its nice when the main problem is to how to get the 'things out of the door'. We need to see some earnings to crystallise the projected PE, but the 'writing is on the wall' as far as I am concerned.

Never mind share mag!! Unless it said SELL.

I dont understand why people are not buying on the last trading statement. These are looking really cheap and I cant really see how things could have changed much since the statement!

I expected 55-60p by now - instead I am sitting on a loss.

Explain more Essential - I'm not an accountant but from the cuts I have taken below, it seems like BGBL are probably at break even already and will soon be very profitable - margins are good.

30/9/2009
Turnover increased by 116% to £5.82 million (H1 2008: £2.70 million) as contracts won by the Group were converted into meter installations.

As a result of these factors, the loss from operations for the period was reduced to £0.62 million (H1 2008: £1.90 million) and broadly meets with the Board's expectations. After net finance costs, the loss before tax was £0.67 million (H1 2008: £2.02 million) and the loss per share was 0.75p (H1 2008: 3.18p).

The Group's cash balance at 30 September was £0.98 million and at November 30 it was £2.43million following the recent placing which raised gross proceeds of £2.25 million.

3/2/2010
During the third quarter of the year Bglobal installed nearly 10,500 meters and recently installed its 80,000th meter in the large and medium business market

10/3/2010
The Company's nationwide installation programme continues to recover from disruption caused by freezing weather conditions in December and early January and smart meter installations performed across the UK by Bglobal during February reached almost 4,200.

melody9999 We got a press tip this am in the Shares Magazine. BGBL has promptly fallen a further 2p!! They still remain a buy in my view but the loss of short term profit due to the bad winter this year may be offering a buying opportunity.
