28/8/2007 14:10 | forecast looks good for the week in Cornwall mr...........no rain............mayb this chap isn't afraid to stand up.............. Mobius Buys Stocks, Says Economy Looks `Healthy' (Update1) By Alexis Xydias and Carol Massar Aug. 28 (Bloomberg) -- The worst of the credit-market debacle may be over and stocks will likely rise as the global economy expands, said Mark Mobius, who oversees $30 billion at Templeton Asset Management Ltd. in Singapore. The fund manager said his company has used the market rout in the past month to add to stocks that are attractively priced, including energy producers in Asia and Brazil. South African shares and those in Chinese companies traded in Hong Kong are among the most attractive in emerging markets worldwide, he said. ``The credit crunch and mortgage problems have almost passed us,'' Mobius said in an interview from Hong Kong. ``Markets are going to surge ahead to new highs barring any other unforeseen circumstances. We are pretty bullish.'' The Morgan Stanley Capital International Emerging-Markets Index, a global benchmark, has dropped 8.9 percent since reaching a 2007 high on July 23, on concern that defaults among U.S. subprime borrowers will spill over to other markets and slow economic growth. ``The global economy is very healthy,'' Mobius said. ``The Federal Reserve has been doing the right thing. The U.S. economy will continue to power along as a result.'' The Fed earlier this month lowered the interest rate it charges banks and acknowledged for the first time that an extraordinary policy shift is needed to contain the subprime- mortgage collapse that began roiling the world's financial markets two months ago. ;-))))))))))) | ![]() blockbuy | |
