Well it would be a shame if they didnt! They have always done it previously as far as I can see, and if they did trump 50,000oz I reckon the market should know about it.

Interesting information, Phillis. Would anyone care to phone the company to see if they are prepared to divulge whether or not they are planning to release quarterly figures this time round? I'd attempt to myself, but am presently on an overseas assignment - so not easy to do.

I added to my AVM position today, as I don't want to be caught out if there is a spike up in the wake of a good announcement.

I spoke to the FD before Xmas and he commented that they had no hard and fast rule re announcing 1/4ly production numbers i.e. they may not do it this time

As far as I can see AVM's record production in a quarter was 47,000oz a while back (before things started to slow down in Tajikstan). I reckon we will get something like: 29,700oz from Penjom
12,000oz from Tajikstan
6,000oz from N.Lanut

Giving a new record of about 48,000oz. If they did go over 50,000oz I would think the market would be very impressed. Simarly if there was evidence that N.Lanut production was being ramped up very quickly (perhaps towards 80,000oz a year?)the market would get excited - although I doubt they will hit peak production there for at least another month or so....Results were out last time on the 29th of the month, so we should be looking at either Friday or Monday.

Thanks for those calculations, mieke: some useful pointers to watch out for when the announcement comes.

Hmm well third quarter production figures due any day now so its possible these may add some extra impetus. Look for the first gold produced from N.Lanut, and maybe, just maybe an increase quarter on quarter from the Tjikstan operation. We know that Penjom produced 19,777 in the first 2 months of Q3, a slight increase to 9888oz per month on the 9833oz per month produced in the previous 6 month period. At any rate its likely to be a new record quarterly production, which should garner some interest. I would guestimate about 48,000oz for the quarter from the 3 mines - but wouldnt be surprised if they made 50,000oz

The director purchase should really put some momentum behind this stock now given the quantity he purchased.

I agree with your interpretation DoobyDave. Another way of looking at the chart is to see a box formation: with a 90p horizontal line forming the bottom of the box and a 100p horizontal line forming the top. As you no doubt know, a breakout from a box - one way or the other - is usually very significant. We have had one failed attempt, but I think enough steam has been generated this time round.

An upside breakout is surely a banker (now or soon), and may even be confirmed by the end of the day?

The longer-term chart is looking quite interesting. For the last 2yrs we have seen major waves every 11 months or so; after the peak there is a gentle 1/3 retracement followed by a few months in the doldrums.

If you look closely, there are several mini-peaks at the apex of each main peak. The current rise is creating the third mini-peak on the present crest. According to precedent, this should be lower than the second, but right now it isn't looking that way.

If I'm right this could herald a break-out. Too early to call, so treat my comment as pure flight of fancy for now.

Nice to see a large director buy, sending the price northwards b4 the Q3 results are issued (end of month I would think). Lets hope we can break the recent resistance for sure this time.

Wow £200,000 buy from a director, that aint no messing around! Going back 3 years the directors have always timed their buys impeccably. He's getting his in well ahead of July - but i reckon there will be corporate action this year involving AVM.

Thanks for the EVO post, I've never understood how companys like Peter Hambro are on such high relative ratings cp to AVM

Can anyone remember of the Evo BUY (21/12/04) note was on here before (its PDF and a real pain to cut & paste?

Summary:

"The Penjom operations have continued to outperform the mine plan according to the recent production report. The weakness in the gold price has shaken out some speculators from the market and has brought Avocet to strong buy territory.

A comparison with other London listed gold producers is edifying. For the year ended December Peter Hambro produced 141,000 ounces of gold is equivalent to $4,403 per ounce market cap rating. The attributable production for Oxus Mining is 95,000 ounces this year, this gives a rating of $2,439 per ounce. Avocets 180,000 ounces of production give a rating of $706 per ounce. This discount is undeserved given Avocets production history. The growth profile and exploration potential in Indonesia and Tajikistan, offers additional upside. Full year results due in July will show the company continuing to outperform its peers."

Not sure that we can get to £3 on the strength of a hefty director buy , but welcome news nonetheless. It will also dispell the myths about the mines being flooded by the tsunami. Anyone seen a"bis"mal (sic)?

Excellent news, which surely strengthens the prospects of further good news down the line. I think everyone on this thread was already well convinced, but it is a terrific boost to have this evidence of director confidence.

Hopefully, this development will wake up the wider market to AVM's achievements and prospects.
