yesterday does show how daft the stock market is and how quant funds dont really look into cos they trade in. the DL announcement highlighted 2 well known issues being motor and commercial real estate and then quantified what should have been well known, ie frost causes pipe damage, but put figures on it and of course they canned the divi.

i havent really got a strong view on whether DL is now cheap or not as not looked enough (you would think it is) but what is patently obvious is that lgen, phnx and mng trading down on a predominantly GI issue is crazy. moreover the size of the moves is unfathomable.

when i checked my screen first thing yday avia was off 4% or £500mln of market cap. this was presumably ascribed to upcoming profit issues in their personal lines business which generates slightly under 10% of profit each year. aone off hit here is roughly speaking somewhat meaningless.

in contrast, huge excess deaths and likely rerating of actuarial tables, is being ignored. a shift in improvements and chnage in deaths curves is worth many hundreds of millions to aviva.

i guess it just shows that aviva, despite its size, is actually not that liquid given its high degree of tracking shareholders, and therefore a concerted sell momentum by indiscriminate statistical driven investors can create moves like this.

I guess DLG does not employ any actuaries or anyone else capable of understanding viable business models.
Fancy instituting a share buyback programme and cancelling it part way.

Personally I doubt whether the cash balances claimed in the FS are even reconciled to bank accounts.

I just hope Aviva continues to be rewarding and boring to offset my losses on DLG. Commercial real estate pricing trends are available to any punter and the weather here has been benign apart from a 10 day not very cold snap.
Hopefully DLG has cornered the market when selecting incompetent staff and Board Members.

Unfortunately the difference between a simple correlation and proven cause and effect, seems to evade some peoples’ understanding. Wilful misunderstanding in many cases.

My grandad smoked like a chimney, drank loads and lived to 96.

So I don’t know why there’s a fuss about those - someone is clearly out to spoil everyone’s enjoyment.

Btw we cannot have a flat earth. If there is, where are the posh hotels with the views, that would inevitably have sprung up all along the edge ?

It's hardly a lethal injection, it's an OTT comment.Some have adverse reactions to it and died as a result but if it's lethal, then millions would be dead after having it.

Article suggests there were claims due to excess heat and implies climate change is also the cause. Plus freezing weather caused huge number of motor related claims due to freezing roads accidents.

Plenty of evidence in US pointing to vaccine induced myocarditis, and death from heart attacks. Surge in SADS across the most vaccinated nations.
Excess deaths continue to be abnormally high.

Impact on pregnancies/fertility.

IF - there are any true stats on 4th C vacs dying of heart attacks - it may well be that as they were clearly in the old or vulnerable category to get 4 jabs , that the jabs protected them from covid, pneumonia and flu , so they could die of a heart attack or cancer or not getting into A&E in time instead.....

Correlation perhaps - but for so many other reasons.

It is likely that years of shutdowns, doctors looking to get out , do less work over the phone or not at all , disruptions with strikes etc will continue to see higher mortality

1rob the current trends in UK mortality were initial ignored by the actuaries as a temporary covid blip that wouldnt affect tables. however im now hearing that they are going to change tables and in addition there is now a trend of male mortality declining rather than improving which is a large departure from last 20 years.

all of whcih is of course very positive for annuity writers and aviva is of course one of the largest.

it doesnt really affect their life book albeit the mortality rates for younger people have elevated a bit.

they wont hold outright property in annuities but they do have a large debt book backed by commercial property but its in matching adj portfolio so not that relevant.

clearly av will be inmpacted by elevated claims along wtih DL but they ahve a much mroe diversified portfolio and in any case the personal lines GI busness only contributes about £150mln pa of OFG out of £1.5bln. hwo that works out as a 4% drop in teh share price is of course nonsense
