Why is this share going down? It looks really good value to me... I buy some, there's good news (a little anyway) and the share price still drops? Does anyone know why? Is it anything to do with newtons law of gravity...? Just a thought...

Just a little bit of news nobody else had posted:-

Sredne-Nevsky Shipbuilding Plant signs large contract with AVEVA
16 February 2009

AVEVA (LSE:AVV), the leading supplier of engineering IT systems for the plant and marine industries announced the signing of a 1 000 000 euro contract with Sredne-Nevsky Shipbuilding Plant (SNSP), Russia.

AVEVA solutions were selected because they are able to coordinate and manage data so that project costs and time can be minimized. The shipyard is able to quickly produce design and production documentation that will reduce construction time and increase accuracy in both hull production and outfitting construction. Using AVEVA solutions also cuts down construction costs by more effectively managing the pre-assembly production documentation for each step of the building process.

Following the fast installation of the AVEVA solutions, and subsequent full training of the SNSP staff on the new system, a specialist team of engineers continued to work with AVEVA to configure the AVEVA software to satisfy SNSP's specific requirements.

SNSP, situated near St Petersburg in Russia, offers a wide range of services in shipbuilding, modernization and repair of ships and related constructions made of aluminium, steel and fibreglass. Both defence and civil orders are handled by SNSP: the former including minesweepers, missile boats and the topsides of corvettes; the latter, tugboats, fireboats and floating fuel stations.

You've bought well imo - I'd not want to be holding Aviva.

Norwich Uninion are the worst inurers I've ever had the mispleasure of dealing with - useless imo.

In for some of these today - a world leader, net cash of £100m+ (25% of the mkt cap) and the chart now in a new up-trend.

Quite a few good buys going through and small sells. Is the price being reduced so an institutional buyer can get in?

I have no position at the moment but why is this share so cheap?
Sound financials, good press increasing turnover and profits yet the share price has fallen drastically. I know they have lost a lot of orders blaming the crash in the oil price.

One shouldn't forget the foreign exchange benefit as well. A large proportion of earnings are in US$ and while costs can be local what comes back to the UK will help the bottom line

Good statement, growth going forward and net £100m of cash.

Expects to meet expectations, which are eps growth of 37% bringing the per to 8.69. Hope to see revisions to the 2010 forecasts with are slightly negative at present.

Slowly but surely coming back. Quite strong buying over last few days even though not large in numbers.

No borrowings, loads of cash and world leading product.

Yup, was a bargin and hope it stays that way. There is as much chance of knowing what will happen in the coming weeks as flipping a coin imo. This should continue to come back until the next catastrophy, of which there are many to choose.

Stay vigillant.

I know I'm talking to myself here, but once again finished in good order & got to the 600 I expected. Good to see that in spite of a weak general market we rose again over the last couple of days. I think we may well push onto 650-700 range now. Good luck to anyone else out there who may be in this one!

Ended the week strongly (& to plan) & all the better as it was in the face of a falling market yesterday. Expect to open up Monday & again, on the proviso markets behave, could now push onto 600!

500 or thereabouts seems to be holding & it was trying to push on to 550 before the markets retreated at the end of the week. I'm confident we'll be up in the morning & if the markets behave for a few day we could pass 550 this time.

My plan is to dripfeed over the next 6 months and hope I don't slit my wrists in the meantime.

Credit is short and will stay that way for years - we've already had $2,000b taken out of the system with probably $1-2,000b to go. Companies with dept will loose market share to those with cash in the bank as they will not be able to develop products and markets.

I admit to buying a few with huge debts, eg RIO, but only a punt and could be expensive. Sticking with co's with cash in the bank and dominant brands will indue course work out, imo dyor

Bought second tranche yesterday morning @ 496. Like you say, johnrxx99, may still be a long way to go but I think in a couple of years, when hopefully this downturn is ending/over, today's prices will look a bargain. So, into the bottom drawer for now.

good luck hag. I'm taking the same view even though my current investment is much lower than in days of old. I'm of the view we have a long way to go before we see a final bottom.
