Whether we like it or not, he has so far called this right, and despite his informants information being wholly flawed, it has created enough uncertainty in the market for the share price to continue to drop day after day. However, if you are here for Hylas 1, then this is as good as it will get. Me, I am in for Hylas 2 & 3.

In the meantime, I am enjoying the unseasonably warm weather we are having here.

It's fascinating that in Simon Cawkwell's latest ramblings on t1ps.com he says that a share purchase by a director of a company he likes is a good sign and people should "follow him in".

Yet, when Avanti's CEO does the same it's seen as bravado and should be ignored! Cawkwell is so consistently inconsistent it's staggering that anyone listens to the man!

Someuwin,

My belief is the mobile operators will first tackle coverage of densely populate cities long before they think about rolling out 4G into the less populated areas.

They will also need to augment their networks with technology to deliver 4G which are both costly and time consuming rollouts.

Avanti proposition is available now and fills a gap for current demand.

The problem with 4G 3G or mobile all mobile is the same as ever lack of coverage in some rural areas. The mobile companies have problems all the time with putting up new masts where they are wanted for one thing. Either to close to this or that or it is an area of outstanding natural beauty.

I don't see 4G making satellite less relevant yet but only time will tell. Cable TV has not put Sky out of business.

I think the Ofcom announcement on Tuesday (22nd) regarding 4G mobile auction of additional spectrum (including old analogue TV) could have a seriously detrimental effect on AVN's business model.

"Ofcom has today announced plans for the largest ever single auction of additional spectrum for mobile services in the UK, equivalent to three quarters of the mobile spectrum in use today and 80% more than the 3G auction which took place in 2000."

...

"The new spectrum will provide much needed capacity for the fourth generation (4G) of mobile technology, set to deliver significantly faster mobile broadband services – approaching today's ADSL home broadband speeds."

Bidders for the new liceneses will be obliged to increase coverage for rural areas...

"Securing coverage in more rural areas
Statistics on current 2G and 3G coverage demonstrate that coverage varies between areas of the UK, with coverage in more rural areas generally being less comprehensive than in urban areas. This is particularly significant for 3G coverage.

One way of ensuring more uniformity of coverage for 4G services in future would be to supplement the main coverage obligation described above with a requirement to cover a certain proportion of the population in particular areas – for example in certain rural areas. Stakeholders are being encouraged to give their views on the feasibility and appropriateness of this."

Just as the mobile phone made the home landline telephone largely redundant, I think the rollout of super fast 4G mobile internet sevices will be the death of landline based internet access and will also make satellite internet less and less relevant.

it seems clear that despite all the rebuttals the share price hasn't recovered much in the last week.

I was most impressed by the amount of director buying, it was no itty-bitty nibbling but relatively heavy-duty. so either it's all a big con or they're really confident. difficult to believe anything but the latter.

for the long-termers nothing much has changed, except that the prospects have marginally improved over the last 3 months: satellite has longer life, better performance, customer sign-up ahead of plan.

even so, I would prefer the share price now to be higher than lower. first it's better for personal morale; secondly, you never know when you might need/want to sell a few.

i think you are being a little silly on this occasion

good luck to ya michael mouse

on more important matters, it now seems settled that cawky was talking rubbish

as capacity starts to fill, this will move back into a 500-600 trading range quite quickly, imo

michaelmouse,

good luck to you and your blog. it's a free world (ok, it's not really)

perhaps I'd write one myself, but I seem to spend more time than I should simply doing basic research and following the advfn boards.

I am an investor, not some self important oracle.

This bb is for that discussion. Not a forum to try and promote some irrelevant blogosphere.

We already have a manic obese compulsive gambler polluting these boards.

restassured - the point of my blog is that I enjoy writing it. You don't have to read it.

Why do you post on a bulletin board? It's the same thing. Who cares what you think?

I hope you can see the irony of what you have just posted.

No I don't think I'm Stephen Fry, but I enjoy posting comments.

Most of all I enjoy investing. Posting on bbs or blogs is just part of doing what I enjoy.

Why do you post on this bb?

Michael.

I agree I hate celebs, but that system above is very very good.

As for Evil would be nice to see his take on the latest development, no doubt he will try to save face and say he is still short.

It seems the Analyst behind this poorly constructed argument got his decimal point in the wrong place stating the EUT's capacity was 23 times that of Avanti's instead of actually roughly 2.3 times

As a broker you dont make this comment if your not 99% sure your correct in your analysis......

The recently advanced bear case against Avanti does not hold up, nor apparently
do suggestions of analyst avoidance: we checked with company management
who confirmed that all analysts following the shares are invited to presentations.
Furthermore, the most critical recent commentator had indeed been given a one
to one meeting and encouraged to relay further questions in writing.

If anything swung the debate in favour of the Bulls its that above comment.
