Lots of buying but share price seems reluctant to move up much. I would have thought 15/20 % up by now.

With the satelite now live new contracts will no doubt be announced in quick succession and the share price will rise. We will soon be looking at £6+ per share imho as the potential earnings are recognised by the market. IMO this is not a time to sell. Avanti has not been this cheap for some time!!

the guy who is losing his shirt on alledged horse race betting would impress some of you more if he were to name his selections after the race, rather than before.

Having bought in @ 6.80 & then seen Ek short this to hell I have to take my hat off to the master of shorters. We are all in it to make money & he does it by hook or crook. He may not always be right but anyone who has followed his advice will be well in pocket by now on avn. In his defence the company has not handled the situation very well & although director buys are very encouraging, time will be the answer to who is right & who is not. Techinvest mentioned that with hedge funds who have gone short on companies that they follow, have often done their homework & are often proved right. In this case they do believe that the shorters are wrong. There does seem a bit of concern within their write up though.

I am literally amazed at what is happening here; it is quite surreal! SC clearly has either lots of money he can afford to lose or he's a frequent liar (or both). Assuming he is not lying, his gambling of what I would consider large amounts of money frequently on horses and football matches is very striking. If that is how easily he is prepared to lose his money then surely you would have to question how easily he is prepared to lose his money on his own share tips; especially when he's trying to prove a point!

With much less money available, I, like many PI's I suspect, do not place a large bet lightly. For the record, I am Long AVN and have been for about two years.

SC is contrary on AVN to every analyst (paid or unpaid by AVN) bar one. He is also contrary to all the financial tipsters in newspapers and tip sheets that I have read. He is also contrary to Eutelsat's CEO who ought to know what he is talking about.

To be bearish on AVN you must also ignore everything DW has said numerous times in official RNSs over the last few years and all the director's recent and significant share purchases in the open market.

Greengiant, I agree wholeheartedly with everything you have posted recently here (high quality posts) but would like to comment on your acknowledgement that SC is right in the short term. I suspect that SC does not actually believe the bearish arguments because, when assessed objectively on the available evidence, they appear very weak to most if not all of us (if I'm wrong then I've vastly overestimated his intelligence).

I think he has been very shrewd (and may be that is how he makes his money on his stock shorts) by:-

1) Knowing that Hylas 1 wasn't due to go into commercial service until March, hence it was not generating revenue.
2) AVN is on AIM and is fairly illiquid.
3) There has been a big and fast run up in the share price prior to launch which if confidence could be undermined could result in a steep retreat.
4) He chose February to announce his short on this BB precisely when nervousness in the markets began regarding (i) Libya, (ii) the global threat of increasing inflation and risk of imminent interest rate rises and (iii) many commentators questioning whether the stock market rally would soon reverse.
5) He chose today when things are looking worse in Japan to reiterate his bearishness to try to counteract the very positive RNS yesterday and DW's latest share purchase.

I don't believe all this is by chance; so shrewd I think SC is. I think SC's definition of right is whether he can make his money from his short tips by undermining confidence in companies at opportunistic times even when there is no weakness in the fundamentals of a company.

If he deliberately undermines confidence and makes his money on his short tip then by his definition he can announce himself to be right. My definition is different; I think he is wrong in his arguments and has simply, but shrewdly, manipulated the market.

For what its worth I've had a colleague in Libya ask me this week to source him a satellite broadband service inc hardware urgently, he would send someone over to collect the equipment. I looked into Tooway & Hughes via a couple of companies (Bentley Walker and Europe Satellite) - the costs are astronomical and tooway is actually considered too unreliable at present for coverage there.

Roll on Hylas 2.

I would think that Simon isn't all that interested in the intricacies of satellite technology and pricing as long as there is money to be made from the uncertainty spread by Investec, he's a clear winner here at the moment and enjoying every minute, you have to smile. I'm into MOS at the moment, hope SC doesn't short them anytime soon

Twin Soul should win stevi. I won't be up much though when it does. Nice Irish horse at short odds. If I lose though I will be £15k down. This is not good.

restassured, you do yourself a disservice by constantly sniping personal comments towards Simon. All it does is prove he's gotten under your skin.

I'm long Avanti, and I couldn't care less that Simon's gone short. I admire his dogged intransigence. If he wants to risk burning some of his gains on Avanti from the last few weeks, that is his decision. In other news, judging by his apparent absence from this bulletin board over the last 24 hours, I surmise that montypunisher has taken some punishment.
