17/11/2010 17:54 | Ah well Y - in my short time here if you are thinking about taking the hit it's probably time to do it - limit the losses - maximise the gains, another share another day... | ib1905
17/11/2010 17:42 | Yes not bad....in fact quite good.....XEL making further progress....just wish I didn't hold EMED that has turned into a bad buy, giving thought to taking the hit on that one. :-( | yorgi
17/11/2010 17:06 | Cool guys, thanks for the warm response to that. Another good day in the office for all I hope? | ib1905
17/11/2010 14:54 | Im appaled Yorgi - LOL. In fact Im bringing my case for discrimination to the ECJ. So there !!!!!!!! | bongo bwana
17/11/2010 14:28 | Yorgi, You mean you didnt banish him??? | bongo bwana
17/11/2010 14:12 | Good point and I agree Ib. I am usualy polite and accept there are other viewpoints but I'm afraid I did post below the standard I would normaly yesterday but a certain person I felt deserved it at the time. Sorry to any offence caused | yorgi
17/11/2010 13:58 | Sorry! 8-) | jeffian
17/11/2010 11:46 | One of the things I hate most about BBs since I started reading a year ago is sensible debate turning into vitriol and - yes a view expressed in a patronising way - read what you have typed before hitting enter is a great maxim. No criticism intended of anyone, I do it still to my regret - an apology helps... And I hovered over the send button for a few minutes thinking - will this help?.. | ib1905
17/11/2010 11:15 | altom, You and plasterkay rather underestimate your fellow shareholders in believing that they don't understand the effects of dilution. In any event, I don't thing the responses to plasterkay's original post were about the effects but the likelihood of it happening at all in the foreseeable future. If, in fact, it did happen, the net effect on shareholders depends very much on the terms offered as there is nothing wrong with having a smaller slice of the cake as long as the cake is that much bigger! The thing is, your example is far too extreme - other than panic rescue issues, how many RI's have you seen that dilute shareholders by 80%? (your 5%-1% 'example'). MARS got crucified by the market for offering 1:1 (50% dilution). Even then, it depends on the terms; AVN's recent Placing diluted existing shareholders by about 20% but raised cash at 430p - over 4x the share price 18 months earlier. I have no idea whether AVN will fund future growth by share issues rather than debt. My own view is that, with a substantial Placing just completed and cashflow likely to begin from Hylas1, it is unlikely in the short term. If it does happen, I'm sure many/most of us will be able to work out the effects. I hope you didn't patronise your shareholders as much when you were "chairman of a small public company"! | jeffian
17/11/2010 11:04 | Daytrading is a mugs game, I am more interested in Hylas 2 and 3 than what's likely to happen on Monday 29 November! | pixi
17/11/2010 09:50 | See that Penny Sleuth and Share Crazy are still on the 25th November for their fabulous latest tip ( if you pay for it). Will be interesting to see if they change it! | abwr75
17/11/2010 08:08 | ib -- it will be annoyingly significant to some of those T+10 traders who opened positions the other day at the earliest opportunity to do so. No trading reactions will now happen till Monday 29th November. Whatever share price impact there is (negative or positive) is likely to be even greater if people have two non-trading days to dwell on it ahead of 8am Monday. There will be more of a pent up crowd queueing to trade -- because the story will have been more widely seen and discussed that weekend than it would have been overnight. If the share price movement, which was already likely to be big, is magnified by significantly greater volume of activity because of this, I would not be surprised if some brokers and spreadbetting firms go into "telephone trades only" mode on the Monday morning.. and anyone planning on dealing online will miss out.(As will those who cannot get through on busy phone lines. Monday mornings are notoriously problematic. Advfn outages sometimes happen on Monday mornings just to add to the fun!) I imagine that a number of traders are now reassessing their tactics. Those who are already holding a sizable stake in the runup to launch, intending to cash in the bulk of it on the eve, and buy in again fast on the morning after, might now have to allow for not being able to readily do that - and will perhaps approach it differently. | m.t.glass
17/11/2010 08:04 | MT glass do you think fri is significant in market terms/considerations | ib1905
17/11/2010 08:00 | plasterkay. I totally agree with you that large placings are a concern, particularly if they are heavily discounted. It is difficult to explain one of the basics of investing in a few words but here goes ; imagine you own 5% of a company. After placings you only own 1%. If the profits only double you are worse off. If they go up by factor of 10 you are better off. It is hard to believe that people can invest in companies without understanding this. I used to be chairman of a small public company. | altom
17/11/2010 08:00 | And interesting to see that the launch date has shifted to Nov 26th.. a week on Friday. And in the evening, after the UK market has closed. | m.t.glass
17/11/2010 07:57 | pk, i can assure you i for one will be delighted if the the market cap of avanti reaches £20 billion, irrespective of dilution. it will mean i am a very rich man. | jonnyno1
17/11/2010 07:43 | now it's getting real - interesting to see how we do after DJ and market fall yesterday | ib1905
17/11/2010 07:08 | HYLAS 1 Fuelled For Launch TIDMAVN RNS Number : 2930W Avanti Communications Group Plc 17 November 2010 ? +------------------- | Date: | 17 November 2010 | +------------------- | On behalf of: | Avanti Communications Group plc ("Avanti" or | | | "the Company") | +------------------- Avanti Communications Group plc HYLAS 1 Fuelled For Launch Avanti Communications (AIM: AVN), the satellite broadband operator, has been informed that its HYLAS 1 satellite has been fully fuelled and will be integrated with the Ariane 5 launch vehicle tomorrow ahead of the launch on Friday, 26 November. The launch will be webcast live at www.arianespace.com and will occur in a window between 18.39 and 21.54 Greenwich Mean Time. --ENDS-- | someuwin
17/11/2010 06:45 | plasterkay, if all goes well with the Hylas 1 launch on the 25th, do you not think Avanti will find it easier to raise finance in the form of bank debt facilities rather than placings, going forwards......? | jimbo55
17/11/2010 01:19 | welli wont speak to soon but the upside of holding avanti is the swings are no where near as violent as the market, as long as 6 pound holds, i expect at least 7+ on launch, which with current market movements will be a fabulous return | sco77harris
16/11/2010 23:32 | Well summed up Someuwin..... | yorgi |
