G'morning Jonn,

This is a BINARY bet. It will succeed or fail - and you will know the outcome very soon.

EVERY share has its sell by date - always remember that.

You might invest in a subscription to the Small Company Sharewatch Newsletter - available once a month and also on the net and posted to your home.

For the next 3 months I like CCT.

On a 6 month outlook I like HCM.

For the next 12 months I really like FDP, SGP, Hargreaves, WCC and Asian Citrus.

If you are a gambler have a look at Tanzenite, RGT and IQE - each on a 12 month basis OR share price targets of 40p/8p/65p.

Finally, in this category for potentially stellar returns is BKIR and TTNM who are, IMHO, safe.

With all best wishes for every success.

Yorgi - with all the 'launch date confirmed' hype I was the same but now absolutely certain of 900+ after successful satellite deployment. Have a good night all.

Somehow Ib I don't think you will have to eat your hat. However some weeks ago I thought we would be around the 900p pre launch but somehow I think I will be proved wrong on that......but after :-)

I normally ignor share tips like 4459, but I checked out AVN last night and bought 15,000 for the long-term today. I also bought 3000 POG to back up a similar position in ABG.

Barclays Capital has signed a $328 million ECA-backed project facility on behalf of the UK's Avanti Communications Group to procure and launch its Hylas 2 Satellite. The deal is believed to be the largest ECA-backed financing to date into the UK.

The 10-year loan package a heavily structured project financing with a security over assets, share pledges and floating charges. The deal includes a $216 million direct loan US Ex-Im facility as well as a $112 million financing provided by Barclays Capital which is 95% covered by French ECA Coface.

The US Ex-Im financing will be used to fund the procurement of the satellite from Orbital Science, while the Coface–covered tranche will be used to finance the launch of the satellite...

Yes Yorgi - unlike you that.. I think +0.6% against the market's -1% on the strength of yesterdays performance and no 'new news' is creditable - it takes me a year to get 3% from a bank. This has been trailed as a good story for a long time now and loads of PI's are on board - you would have to be locked in a cave not to have some knowledge of this share. While there will be loads more cash piling in it seems to me it is more likely to be in the wake of the launch --patience as you say. I guarantee 700 pre launch or i'll eat my hat in Tesco's!

Satellite broadband helps boost space sector profitsNews
Posted 10th November 2010 at 12:01pm by Kimberley Howson

The UK space sector has remained buoyant despite the global economic downturn – and satellite broadband has played a key role.

According to Oxford Economics, profit levels have increased by an average of ten per cent since 2007.

The space industry is now said to be worth £7.5 billion per year and rising, with employment levels also up by 15 per cent.

Downstream activities - such as satellite broadcasting and telecommunications – have added value to the market, the consultancy stated.

"Satellites go where terrestrial services don't, and what we're doing now with satellites is providing broadband - or internet access - or email coverage in remote environments," Inmarsat's Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sukawaty told the BBC.

"And because we're extending this service to an under-served market, we're now in a position to expand even in the middle of a recession."

Avanti Communications recently announced a November 25th launch date for its HYLAS 1 satellite, which will allow it to offer broadband deals in the UK.

".."Satellites can help deliver broadband," said Willetts. "I think people will be pleasantly surprised how many people a satellite can cover."

"Cornwall will be an interesting test case," Willetts told ZDNet UK. "BT will maintain responsibility for delivering superfast broadband, but will use satellites to reach parts of Cornwall."

More than just an interesting case. Once satellite broadband is adopted by some of the users who might otherwise have had to wait for fibre or cable, the case for continuing with the rollout of fibre and cable becomes progressively less appealing - and less likely to be funded for the fewer potential users. So the users who do choose to wait (or get no choice and have to wait) will likely have to wait even longer - or pay for satellite anyway. In any areas where government money is subsidising the rollout of fibre and cable, satellite coverage will be eagerly used as the excuse to cut or postpone funding. Or BT will be forced to supply satellite service and fund it via price increases everywhere else.

A government that is keen to make cuts will use satellite coverage as their "Let them eat cake" get-out. Or, in order to be seen to be speeding up broadband rollout, will offload responsibility by compelling BT to offer satellite at their expense to all consumers awaiting landline service - as a way of inspiring BT to hurry.

Satellite communications will go towards achieving government broadband targets, said Willetts. The government wants universal 2Mbps broadband by 2015, a target that has slipped from 2012.

"Satellites can help deliver broadband," said Willetts. "I think people will be pleasantly surprised how many people a satellite can cover."

Willetts told ZDNet UK that the government did not yet have a clear idea how much of the broadband target would be delivered by satellite, and how much by other means, such as fibre optic or copper cable. The minister said that rural broadband in Cornwall, which is to receive a £132m investment from the EU and BT, will show how the broadband target can be delivered.

"Cornwall will be an interesting test case," Willetts told ZDNet UK. "BT will maintain responsibility for delivering superfast broadband, but will use satellites to reach parts of Cornwall."

Willetts said that the satellite Hylas-1, which is due to be launched on 25 November, will provide a clearer picture of how broadband will be delivered. The aim of Hylas-1 is to provide broadband internet communications for the European market.

Tuesday's Stock Market Report from UK-Analyst

"...GE&CR issued a "strong buy" stance for Avanti Communications* (AVN), the satellite broadband operator, with a base case target price of 1,079p and potential upside of up to 2,194p. The research house notes that the UK space sector has been in the spotlight of late with a report out yesterday by the Oxford Economics consultancy group showing a recession-busting increase of 10% per annum since 2007 (as fast as the Chinese Economy). GE&CR believes that in a currently untapped market, first mover advantage and high barriers to entry will enable the group to fill the capacity on its satellites quickly at attractive tariffs. What's more, the research house added, the firm may also be an attractive acquisition target for either another satellite or mobile telecoms operator. Shares in Avanti, whose HYLAS-1 satellite is sch eduled to launch on 25th November, rose 16p to 655p."

SS,

When I got back to V I was called into meeting that ended just over an hour ago. Caught up on postings and thanks and I see I have a couple of emails also.

Dont know what to make to SGP's share price pliability during the past two days trading. I will be stunned if its trading statement and outlook is not stellar.

This of course will result in additional funds being applied here by w/end'ish.
