24/5/2012 16:25 | Running in short supply at the moment Backmarker but yes you are quite right that is what is needed not only with AVN :-) | yorgi
24/5/2012 16:23 | patience, yorgi, patience. | backmarker
24/5/2012 15:08 | Seems very reluctant to budge from this 305p area :-( | yorgi
24/5/2012 13:06 | Reflecting ..... did not work ... 303 was still 303 .... looking forward to 309 but not 310! Time to walk the dog .... | nugacity
24/5/2012 12:24 | Avanti promises 'new pricing era' | aishah
24/5/2012 11:27 | Hmmmm John I would have said your think is flawed..........but then again on reflection.......!!! | yorgi
24/5/2012 11:23 | We seem to take a nose dive after every great contract win. SO, what about they suddenly announce a big loss, say. Won't that make us skyrocket?? Mmmm, is my thinking flawed? John | 2350220
24/5/2012 10:55 | I would agree with that pretty much Backmarker.......and the rise will come when we least expect it ! | yorgi
24/5/2012 10:53 | here's another prediction.... the next significant rise in AVN will be a "whooosh". why ? because most AVN rises have been fairly rapid. volume while we "dither" at 300-310 is quite low, which suggests to me this is just a "refreshment" pause while we gather energy for the next blast-off. because we spent a long time in the 300-330 area on the way down there may be a number of investors who bought in then and are now at near breakeven, and are determining whether to hold to jettison. the nature of markets at present might suggest they do the latter, but as this doesn't seem to be happening I take it as a positive sign. the recent spike to 370 will have given some the opportunity to bale, and it was hardly surprising the price came rocketing down. 330 might have held but didn't. but 300p looks a good support base. all imho, dyor, glta. | backmarker
24/5/2012 10:44 | Well you had better stand on the stage and take the applause Backmarker :-) | yorgi
24/5/2012 10:42 | yorgi, in the article above my post: The new Africa and Middle East service will be available from Q3 2012 this year through Avanti's HYLAS 2 Ka-band satellite, scheduled to launch in July, and to be operational from the end of August. as nuga says, how clever of me was that !!! ;~} | backmarker
24/5/2012 09:42 | Still struggling to move on from the low 300's at least the market is not as red as yesterday which is good news. The sooner they sort the Greek saga out the better but that is rather stating the obvious I guess. | yorgi
24/5/2012 08:00 | OT - BPC and SXX who I'm following both have charts that are not unlike AVN. Both had good days yesterday and both have a change of direction in their histograms. Needs other confirmation to be sure and in these volatile markets who knows . . . | johncsimpson
23/5/2012 19:08 | It is as simple as that ! | yorgi
23/5/2012 19:07 | Well the Greek factor has hit the market today with few stocks bucking the trend and AVN was not one of them sadly. Unless something good comes from the meeting I guess like many stocks we will continue to slip. However we the right decision and words coming out of the meeting then I would expect the climb to br resumed. We our very much in the hands of the Greeks and Euroland at the moment. | yorgi
23/5/2012 18:26 | The reason for the change of 'block size' (22 may) on the histogram on this graph compared with the one on post 44 above is to do with the timing of the screenshot of the one above and the fact that AVN improved from +2.75 (early intraday) to +11.75 by the end of the day. This will now remain/always be the 'block size' for that day. | johncsimpson
23/5/2012 16:32 | wait 'til it hits 3p ... | n3tleylucas
23/5/2012 16:21 | HSV the new HMV? is paying a great dividend because the share price is in free fall. Too risky for me but could be an exciting ride? | nugacity
23/5/2012 15:14 | Just looked at my dividend listing and picked out KCOM paying 2.67p on a 68p share price. TDW don't have it registered yet but ex-div is 27th June. A quick 4% but the share price might exceed the 2.67p rise needed for an even quicker 4%+ | nugacity
23/5/2012 15:02 | There was only one day in June mentioned , how clever predicting that would not be the day ..... what does it matter anyway? Countdown starts in a few minutes .... I await Rachel Riley, salivating already :O) | nugacity
23/5/2012 14:09 | cheers colva ... gl | n3tleylucas
23/5/2012 14:05 | Are they Backmarker, where have you seen that ? As you say not a lot of interest in the shares today but the market is not very strong today to say the least. | yorgi
23/5/2012 13:56 | yorgi, looks like they are now quoting "July launch" as I predicted..... ;~} | backmarker
23/5/2012 13:55 | not much interest in AVN shares today. at least we're maintaining the 300-310 area ready for the next move up. | backmarker
23/5/2012 12:48 | Just found this on their website - not sure why I couldn't see it on RNS This reads like it's a completely new product for them. the speed is pretty amazing - 365Mbps. I read this to mean that Avanti now has a product right in the middle of the market that everyone is getting excited about for O3B? Should be good AVANTI POWERS DIGITAL ECONOMIES ACROSS AFRICA AND MIDDLE EAST WITH NEW KA-BAND INTERNATIONAL IP TRUNKING USING NOVELSAT'S NS3 TECHNOLOGY 23 May, 2012 - 09:00 - Dramatic increase in spectral efficiency heralds new era in pricing - Johannesburg, SatCom Africa: Avanti Communications, the satellite operator, today announces the launch of the world's first commercial Ka-band, International IP Trunking proposition that will transform international IP trunking across Africa and the Middle East with prices as low as $500 per Mbps. Market-changing increases in spectral efficiency are driven through combining Avanti's Ka-band technology with NovelSat's latest NS3 proprietary world leading modulation scheme. The result is an increase in spectral efficiency of up to 5bits/HZ, observed in trials completed in early May on Avanti's Ka-band HYLAS 1 satellite. The new service will be capable of delivering high capacity bi-directional data links of up to 365Mbps between transmit and receive sites, using the most advanced NovelSat modulator and demodulator. Avanti's market-changing price point is made possible by combining the impressive bit rate increase and lower Ka-band space segment, which together deliver significant cost efficiencies The new Africa and Middle East service will be available from Q3 2012 this year through Avanti's HYLAS 2 Ka-band satellite, scheduled to launch in July, and to be operational from the end of August. Based on Avanti's rate card MHz pricing, operators can see their costs falling as low as $500 per Mbps per month. Mike Fiddes, Avanti's Sales Director Africa and ME, commented: "Africa and the Middle East are the fastest growing markets for internet subscribers with ten year growth rates forecast to be in excess of 2000%[1]. However, demand for international high batch data transmission in emerging markets is being held back by oversubscribed terrestrial telecommunications infrastructure or the absence of reliable terrestrial infrastructure. "Our satellite-based International IP Trunking proposition will help ISPs, mobile operators and large corporate network operators in the Middle East and Africa side step these constraints and keep pace with market growth. The combination of our Ka-band technology and NovelSat's advanced modulator and demodulator drives down costs while increasing performance and reliability. Improved bit rate performance, increased data compression and lower space segment combine to create what we believe to be a transformational service, with particular relevance for markets where Ku and C-band capacity is very limited." Both Africa and the Middle East have limited fibre capacity, which may impact on the speed of development of digital based economies. Extending or constructing new fibre networks takes considerable time and involves extensive costs, especially in regards to the civil engineering required to provide ducts. There have also been several recent cases where subsea internet cables have been accidentally cut, which has led to considerable financial and performance penalties for businesses and government lacking continuity provision.
