and the bbc saying HYLAS market is 3 million homes in the UK:

Around three million homes in the UK have broadband speeds of less than two megabits per second (2Mbps) according to research commissioned by the BBC.

if information does not change a company does not repeat its guidance. A company only makes an announcement when it has something new to say

See:

The precise date is going to be down to SpaceEx, not Avanti. Avanti expect it to be the tail end of this year.

There has been no mention recently of when the possible launch will be so maybe the company building the satellite is having one or two problems.

I think this will put Avanti in play as a very sought after bid target now.

Some commentators claim the full value of AVN once Hylas in in operation is £7.50 upwards.

Maybe this is a little optimistic currently but with Hercules off the drawing board, built and into space, I see higher and potentially close to £10 as take-out value.

The concern will be that we don't get there, this Co. could be taken out before Hylas launch and at £5 or less!

Just an opinion, we don't encourage rampers/derampers on this board, DYOR, etc.

Avanti Communications Group plc
Project award from European Space Agency

Avanti Communications Group plc (AIM: AVN), the broadband satellite
operator, has been awarded a project by the European Space Agency contributing
EUR250,000 in 2009 to the cost of work on a Preliminary Design Review of a new
satellite system called Hercules. This system has been proposed to the
Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform ("BERR") as part of
Avanti's response to the Digital Britain consultation.

The Hercules system could provide a low cost method for delivery of broadband
services at speeds between 2Mb and 50Mb to the 2.5 million rural homes in the
UK which have been identified as unable to access terrestrial high speed
broadband. The Digital Britain consultation has discussed ways to implement a
Universal Service Commitment to solve this challenge. Avanti's first satellite,
HYLAS, will solve a portion of this problem, but the market in the UK for high
speed rural broadband is much bigger than most industry participants previously
imagined.

The Technology Strategy Board, a partner of the British National Space Centre,
has supported Avanti in this ESA application, which is designed to ensure that
if BERR decides to proceed with major government initiatives to solve the rural
broadband challenge, the Hercules concept has been de-risked and fully scoped,
and is capable of a rapid project commencement.

David Williams, Chief Executive of Avanti, said:

"BNSC and Avanti began working together to address rural broadband problem long
before the problem was widely acknowledged, which is how the HYLAS satellite
project began. Whilst this satellite will soon be serving hundreds of thousands
of households in the UK, it is clear that the demand now runs into millions, so
more capacity will be needed if the government decides to move forward with its
Digital Britain Universal Service Commitment, and this Hercules contract would
enable us to respond rapidly."

TIMES: "Rumour of the day

Avanti Communications, the broadband satellite operator, rose 6½p to 219½p on speculation that it is about to win a grant from the European Space Agency to design a satellite. It hopes that the Government will use this to provide low-cost broadband coverage for the 2.5 million rural households without access to fixed-line broadband. "

Hylas started with an ESA grant .....

I think there was some mention of launching a satellite at some stage.I suppose that will be news but we will have to wait before deciding if it's good or bad.:-)

Why would anyone want to ramp at this stage.I've been holding these for a few years now,no reason to sell until after the launch (if then).'bout time you got a life chubs

Once in space and switched on, this co is then in play for a significant take-out premium, most likely at £5/7 a share,

£5/7,will be too low for a takeover once the system is in operation. It might JUST be enough as an offer now.
