13/2/2009 14:25 | Yeah thats right it was an obsolete Ruski satelite that smashed into an American craft. Was on the news last night showing the amount of space junk up there showed an astronaut losing his tool box up there as an example. Its only going to get worse up there... | pelleeds1980

In all honesty, I don't know and I should have followed your link. ;) I wasn't aware of the story at the time, and just assumed it was another launch failure question - a lot of those have been answered on this thread. I'm going to contact Avanti and enquire about their being insured against satellite collisions. Also terryebby, from what I've understood, only one of the satellites involved in the collision was dead. The other was a US communications satellite. | ![]() jimbo55
13/2/2009 11:20 | the in orbit collission was at low Earth orbit and involved dead satellites that no-one cared about. Avanti's satellite will be in Geo orbit some 30,000 km higher where there is very little space junk, and that junk is carefull ynavigated as a matter of cousre by companies operating satellites. As per usual, BBC sensationalises a science and technology story | terryebby
13/2/2009 09:12 | that's launch failure...but what about orbit collision failure like in the bbc story? that's different no? | undertaker

If I've remembered correctly, I believe the insured value is £90 million. What I do remember is that whatever it's insured for, it will be enough to pay the cost of having another go with a replacement Hylas Satellite. | ![]() jimbo55
12/2/2009 14:44 | I hope this doesn't happen to AVN's Satelite?... Interestingly would they have a backup solution in place if it did? | undertaker

10/2/2009 12:53 | whats interesting n'est pas is the price movement prior to any disclosure by the company! calling a spade a spade, this is insider trading, another very clear example. | ![]() chrissey
10/2/2009 11:34 | Yes,I am happy to hold for the long term.I have been in since pre demerger and have been adding along the way. | ![]() sg31
10/2/2009 11:29 | By the way you do realise that the company has rejected the bid, so don't expect a takeover | marksnsparkle
10/2/2009 11:24 | David Williams saw the potential for this satellite business years ago.He developed the original screen media business as a way to enable him to get his hands on the rights to the spectrum. He knows the potential value of this business and after years trying to get to this position he will have no intention of letting it slip through his fingers. Investors in this company are by definition long term holders happy to give the company time to progress. Any bid would have to be very substantial to succeed | ![]() sg31
10/2/2009 11:03 | happy days....lets see where this leads. good fundamentals now bid approach! | undertaker
10/2/2009 10:59 | if someone is sniffing around, 'no smoke without fire' comes to mind? if there is interest, given the imputed valuee of the satellite, this offer must be at least £4 and understandably, rejected promptly. | ![]() chrissey

10/2/2009 09:54 | Is that sarcasm or bad timing?! Lets hope the satelite doesnt do that on launch | pelleeds1980

10/2/2009 09:12 | Looking like a nice solid riser this week | pelleeds1980
06/2/2009 18:24 | given that the brokers targets are for prices like £8, one would imagine that corporate finance theory suggests the discount rate would get lower the closer we get to blast off so the share price could rise steadiy. | terryebby
06/2/2009 16:37 | Looking good this week - hopefully as the year progresses these will shoot up | pelleeds1980
04/2/2009 18:58 | terryebby ... but the real opportunity starts when they start using there own satellite instead of leasing bandwidth from other peoples satelite ... hence why I think it will all kick off in Q4 09 when HYLAS hits outer space :-) | marksnsparkle
04/2/2009 17:32 | its valued today at less than the insurance policy or book value there is nothing in the share price at all for the opportunity, the order book or anything | terryebby
04/2/2009 13:56 | Well Im happy to hold, understand its a risk but seem to be signing plenty of revenue streams up... | pelleeds1980 |
