We can never be certain of anything in this game, but I would bet a penny to a pound that AVN will a lot rise further and faster than LLOY over any given timescale. I also consider AVN to be a lot 'safer' than LLOY.

That's why I have a significant chunk of AVN and zero LLOY. But, as they say each to their own.

YORGI YOU ARE A STAR !. ;-) Would you believe I was £240k in profit at one stage with MM but that Black broker told me I was a fool to hang on,£40 and a deal with Cisco was only a year away and all the while he was selling HIS large holding, each and every day ,all the way up to £24 !. My accountants, Deloitte and T were telling me every week to sell !. What was I paying them for,if I did not heed their advice ?. Madness......me that is. ;-(

Lost a few bob on that one myslf Share Shark.....but not a fortune I'm glad to be able to say.

Wendsworth thank you for caring about mine and other AVN shareholders or potential shareholders financial well being :-)

However looking in the longer term I like Sg as just commented see the potential of this comapany and I am not worried about some of the directors taking a profit. You will see they still hold fairly substantial holdings.

With AVN their business is quite easy to see and understand, however the profiting from it takes more detailed understanding and research. They have and are not all promise of some big plan tomorrow but have started to deliver upon thier plan. We have Hylas1 in orbit and working with space on it being sold and we will see how that selling continues over the next few weeks and months. Hylas2 is in progress and as we know Hylas3 is to follow that.

So taking all things into consideration I'm quite happy to hold. I added more on Friday below 700p and I will sell that holding when I have 10% on them which I hope will be soon as I do like to keep some funds moving.....but who knows. However I will continue to hold the bulk of my holding for the longer term.

Yesterday's RNS was hardly 'Directors share sales' in the usual sense - the sales were effected by the Employee Benefit Trust (in which the Directors, among others, have an interest) and related to partial sales of additional shares granted under the Long Term Incentive Plan. A LTIP is effectively a 'bonus scheme' and it is no surprise that Directors may want to convert part or all of it into cash as part of their remuneration (after all, it's in the nature of the LTIP that there's plenty more where that came from!). In this case they seem to have encashed part and kept some of their additional LTIP shares thereby INCREASING their overall shareholdings -

"....increased by 209,384 to 409,457 as a result of the achievement of Long Term Incentive Plan targets. On 3 December 2010 the sub fund sold 140,000 shares in the Company at a price of 701p per share".

wendsworth,
Re Lloyds, I think you'll find strategic thinking is about the future, not the past. Lloyds future is extemely hard to gauge at the moment whereas AVN's is very secure.

sg31: You make some sound points.

Having bitter experiences of the dot-com bubble and hi-tech shares you'll see that in my posts have consistently advocated a safety first approach to investing in this company .

I suspect the Directors of AVN think likewise and if so ...why not?

What has also concerned me as that some inexperienced investors can get carried away with 'rags to riches' shares . Assuming sco77harris is an AVN holder and his recent posting is genuine then I perceive there is a need for investor awareness posts on this BB .

Wendsworth,This is one company where I think the directors deserve their rewards.
Lots of aim companies award piles of options and free shares with no performance requirements (see Corac, rasing money at 15p,directors given options at 15p that they can exercise at any time in the next 10 years).

In the case of AVN they have built a good company from nothing.I haven't seen anything that concerns me regarding this outfit.

Give them time they will make us all a lot of money.

You talk of taking a strategic view but your post is about short term tactics.

The Company have a strategy of launching more satellites in the future.I have a strategy of holding for the next 5 years.

yorgi : Just scanning posts on this BB at w/e. Have also picked up on the after hours RNS yesterday .

Your candour and consistent bullish stance does you credit and providing all your positions are covered for the long term then it could well be no problem. If not...you must look closely and seriously at the concerted response by the Directors to this week's launch. Bestwick : £981,000, Fox : £280.000,
O'Connor : £420.000 and Williams : £2.857million represting sales totalling 647,571 shares. Nice work ..if you can get it!

Two of the primary reasons why I sold out this Monday were : 1. possible need for future capital injections 2. sweeteners to be offered prior to any full listing ..both of which I judged to dilute holdings. You stated in a previous post that you would have sold some at 800p. If you sell at 700p and this share retraces to 600p you're in the same position. Please think about it. I have no axe to grind. My core holdings are Lloyds and BP whilst I sold my AVN to buy into IMI. That's it and I'm not ramping any of my portfolio..just telling you how it is!

Whatever you decide all I ask is that you take a strategic realistic view
of the short term prospects for the AVN share price.

yorgi, I don't think that's likely in this stock. Blue's reasoning is almost certainly right. Directors are heavily constrained as to when they are allowed to buy or sell their own company's stock, especially when there is a constant newsflow.
Fin O'Sullivan of Burren Energy told me there were just two days in the year he could buy or sell; the day of the announcement of the prelims and the day of the finals.
What I am less certain about is the stuff about the sub-funds but it is sure to be purely tax and incentive scheme related.

On the 26th Nov we had the RNS that AEGON had increased their holding and although I can't see anything in the RNS list about it I seem to recall someone saying somewhere something about director or directors selling to satisfy institutional demand.....can anyone confirm or have I dreamt that one ?

Yes I'm sure that is the case Blue.

I'm not worried and like you I have every confidence in David Williams delivering.

I remember talking to a director of another company and his take on it was that there was never a good time for him to sell his shares and make some money(which is what it is all about) and never a good time to buy as he would be accused of having inside information.
Let`s assume that avn have reached a milestone at roughly 7 quid and it will take a few months for the next leg up, probably when we go onto the main market. I have no doubt that David Williams will deliver the best possible returns for investors in Avanti.

Worried about the Director sells. If they are not offloading to a big investor, must be worried about the share price staying well below 700 in the short term.
