Volumes low, doesn`t look as though there are any major sellers-wouldn`t think there`s anything to worry about. If you`ve got spare cash, top up.

I'm aware that a lot of people don't give much creadance to Tom Bulford (RHPS) but here is his update of this week:

AVANTI COMMUNICATIONS (AVN): Following the successful launch of Hylas-1, Avanti has given an exceptionally bullish view of its future with its annual results. Chairman John Brackenbury has described Avanti's opportunity as 'quite thrilling'. Chief Executive David Williams has expressed confidence that the capacity of Hylas-1 can be sold within three years. He said the capacity of Hylas-2, the larger second satellite due for launch in 2012, can be sold out within five years. Williams believes that:

'the world is beginning to see a data crunch where the demand for data transmission capacity will greatly outstrip supply, so any company in possession of long term rights to use large amounts of spectrum has a strong future. In particular, the transmission of video across all platforms, and the emergence of cloud computing will fundamentally change consumers' bandwidth requirements. In the enterprise sector, machine to machine communications looks set to transform the way many businesses operate and we are seeing strong demand in telemetry, banking and retail for the movement of critical real time financial and performance data. We believe we have a strong role to play in helping mobile phone companies to maximise the flexibility and efficiency with which they can support network growth in rural areas. I expect the data crunch to give us opportunity and demand to finance many satellites in the next decade or so... we have enough spectrum available to launch perhaps 20 satellites.'

So as I said, the story is very far from over. With the risk of launch failure in the past and Avanti expressing such confidence I am going to raise my buy limit to 750p and set a new £15 target. BUY UP TO 750p

Well I'm for the long hall too - if even half of the (£23 was it) forecast, comes to fruition the sellers are throwing away virtually certain growth in 2-3 months of 100% - The bloody satellite isn't even operational yet (but has been reported as functional) - It seems to me like leaving a football match at half time when nobody has kicked a ball yet but your team has 15 men against the others 11!! Each to their own.

I suspect that the speculators who have made a decent profit are moving to pastures new. There will be a fair number of people who only piled in pre-launch, maybe on margin, and had no intention of staying for the long haul. It's certainly buy on the dips for me. A marathon not a sprint ...

Agree with peedlep a bit disappointing but there's a while to go before there are any returns from this company and there are bound to be dips there always are. It could be a trading stock for several months, as long as the range moves gradually upwards I thinks it's normal. Nothing wrong with the company, excellent future.

yay! Just topped up with some more at 694 - a lot higher than most of my AVN purchases but it seemed too good value to refuse.

Have to stay - disappointed by the drop over the last few days...we're not too far off the pre-launch price. Coupled with the excellent broker notes I expected the price to settle around £7.50 mark...

Avanti Communications - FY'10 Results & HYLAS 2 in view; target price raised from 1,111p to 2,519p
Price 726p, Buy

FY'10 results (June) were eclipsed by two events; (i) successful fund raising for implementation of HYLAS 2 (due for launch in spring 2012); and (ii) the successful launch of HYLAS 1 on November 26th at 18.39 GMT from the Kourou Space Centre in French Guiana. The key results points were:

 Revenue of £5.82m, below FY'09 (£8.0m). Avanti noted: "Our result for the year produced lower turnover ... resulting from our decision to stop selling our interim service on rented satellite [Intelsat 903] capacity. The service sold in 2006-9 on old-fashioned Ku band television satellite capacity is comparatively slow and expensive, and it makes a loss";

An EBIT loss of £2.436m. Avanti commented: "costs increased during the year as recruitment ramped up to sell our bandwidth and also to manage three satellite projects instead of one. The increase in operating costs was offset by receivables in the form of contractual payments from suppliers resulting from certain manufacturing delays".

HYLAS 2 now fully-funded: £283m raised

Avanti reported that it has now completed financing for HYLAS 2, via facilities provided by US and French Export Credit Agencies of £194m and an £89m equity placing. Post-year-end it also repaid its PIK bond via a £70m equity raise. On 25th Nov. Avanti announced that HYLAS 2 had passed its Critical Design Review and has now entered the (Orbital) manufacturing phase. Avanti reports that following HYLAS 1 success and efforts by Arianspace, the launch commitment will remain with Arian 5.

Based on a 2010-18 DCF, our target value is raised from 1,111p to 2,519p.

I live in srilanka....................... and i dream of driving a decent motor, at the moment i,v got a 9 year old run of the mill Mazda that can only be described as a mess, but believe it or not its probably worth about 5k.
The import duty ,various taxes and VAT are so high that srilanka is one of the most expensive places in the world to buy a new car.

At the local VW showroom a Polo 1.4 would set me back 26.5k.

HYLAS Satellite Reaches Geostationary Orbit

by Staff Writers
Bangalore, India (PTI) Dec 02, 2010
HYLAS (Highly Adaptable Satellite), which was launched successfully on November 27, 2010 by the European Ariane-5 V198 launch vehicle, has reached the geostationary orbit.
It may be recalled that the HYLAS, the satellite jointly built by ISRO/Antrix and EADS/Astrium of Europe for Avanti communications of U.K. was initially injected into an elliptical Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) with a perigee of 250 km, apogee of 35,906 km and inclination of 1.99o.

ISROs Master Control Facility at Hassan immediately took over the control and command operations of the satellite.

The perigee was raised from 250 km to 35,521 km by firing the satellite's Liquid Apogee Motor (LAM) of 432 Newton thrust level in three phases on Nov 28th (for 1 hour 19 minutes), on Nov 29th (for 30 minutes) and today (for about 4 minutes).

The HYLAS Satellite, presently in an orbit of 35,521 km (perigee) x 35,800 km (apogee) is in good health and in continuous radio-visibility from Hassan.
