Azalea - I keep looking at Augean but theres still a lot of competition out there from small operators. Its still not a level playing field in terms of regulation.

According to the IC, it has two main competitors Biffa and Shanks.

Says it all about the IC really.

AUG is currently trundling along at a three year low. According to the IC, it has two main competitors Biffa and Shanks. Despite Biffa recently rejecting a second bid approach, the IC now rates it as fairly priced. At virtually the same time the IC recently gave AUG a 'buy' rating. Followers/holders will be well versed in the ups and down of AUG and especially the price of 157p its largest stake holder (151 Ltd) paid for a 20% stake and circa 140p+ for the remaining 6%+. The disposal of waste in all its forms and the ever increasing stricter EU laws governing same, are not going to go away. This means that companies involved are assured of a stable and increasing flow of revenue in the years ahead irrespective of market turmoils. 151 Ltd owner, is currently sitting on a very large paper loss, I do not believe this will continue throughout 2008. Accordingly, I have bought 2500 today. DYOR

Unless something else crops up we would have to consider the Irish question, for todays strange news.
Perhaps it's a case of patience & time will reveal all?
A bit like football stories.

Working with the Irish perhaps ?
Would have to step down - conflict of interest.
Likewise B.bus just a thought.

to keep his employment secure or if (conveniently) he saw AUG better off as independent, i would think it would have been more in his interest NOT for the co. to be taken over.

Funny that thought crossed my mind also but then would he have been an obstacle?

THe Irish are active - but think they have their guns aimed at other things first

Bid activity in the direction of Biffa is keeping Aug on the move.
A company likely to be in demand for it's ability to produce a good steady flow of profits going forward, is the reason for the Biffa bid.
Could spill over, but the Irish is a blocker if they are not active.

It will help the treatment side of the business thats for sure but I am not going to get back level on these just on trading news - we need some corporate action !!

I am wondering if the tick up this morning is on the back of an EU ruling (already effective in Scotland and in England and Wales today) that ALL waste sent to landfill sites must have already been treated. Who better to treat the waste than the site operators and thereby increase revenues.

Apparently, "Most British firms are unaware of the strict new requirements on waste disposal that applies to all of them". Hmmn!

The IC today - claims that Biffa and Shanks shares fell as the result of the mid year turmoil in the markets, but suggests that a private equity bid in the U.S. for a waste company there has relit PI hopes of bid hopes here.

Any serious news on that front will not do AUG any harm.

Always the case, this must be one of the most institutionally held of all small companies.
Ergo i51 if they ever, ever, get around to the bid will have to negotiate a great deal first & pay over the odds.
Thats what we are all hanging on for.
They provide some sort of s bottom to the share, even if the price says otherwise, & with only 15% available a bid would be share price explosive.

This share should be far more upwardly price sensitive than it has been, thats the theory, but it has not been the practice.

I'm back in today, after getting out @ 148p earlier this year - got bored waiting for One51 to bid. It is still holding its large stake I see -most of it bought at circa 147p. I notice that since May 07, some institutional holders have increased their stakes whilst others are new and a few have disappeared below the 3% line I also note the directors purchases in May @ 145p and the current brokers buy reccs. I am looking for the share price to rise notable by the time we get to the FY results.

Edit:25/10. Correction - One 51 bought its initial circa 22% stake @ 157p(not 147p).

One51 shareholders stump up €150m
Monday, 22 October 2007 07:29

The infrastructure, recycling and food group, One51, which is headed by Philip Lynch, has completed a €150m fund-raising. One51 has significant stakes in both NTR and Irish Ferries owner ICG.

The funds were raised from existing shareholders in the group, who appeared confident that the €5 share placing was a discount on the shares' real value estimated by the company itself and independently by Davy Stockbrokers. Trading in One51 shares in the grey market will begin on October 31.

The key of course is not really earnings ( well not in short term) but how valuable an asset they have - They piad £100m for the sites and have developed them. They are a scarce resource and I think value will come out eventually

As they generate cash I am prepared to hold on since I do feel this is pretty much a bottom but it has been painful and not expecting an imminent shoot up. I got excited when the Irish got involved but I think they have no immediate plans to put us out of our misery

Hi Guys,

Read the IC comment on the Interims

AUG does look to be in better shape and more sensible with EPS forecasts.

I see that the forecast for 12/08 is EPS c.6p with no dividend.

That is still a bit rich for me.
