BBC News - Coronavirus: Setback for EU in legal fight with AstraZeneca

EU delivery schedule would appear to be unreasonable?

A good result since both sides can claim they won and the EU Commission can save face.

P,

What a waste of EU taxpayers money, obviously the court ruled in AZ favour. There was no contract only 'Best Efforts' how many times were the EU told!

Now. What compensation are AZ going to go for?

RE above post - some recent movement in this sector - The US government has agreed to purchase $1.2 billion worth of an experimental COVID-19 treatment from Merck if the drug is approved by regulators. This purchase would provide enough medication to fully treat 1.7 million people with the new drug.

Molnupiravir, which is currently in Phase 3 clinical trials, is being tested on study participants who have been diagnosed with COVID-19, aren't hospitalized and have one or more risk factors, such as diabetes, obesity or old age, associated with worse outcomes from the disease.

A big sector.

Data is now coming out regarding vaccinated people catching the Delta strain

PHE now say it is 64% more transmissible indoors than the UK strain and 40% more transmissible outdoors

Yet UK pubs and eateries remain open ??

Over 90% of new cases in the UK are now Delta and one SAGE Prof has just forecast 100,000 cases a day if we carry on the way we are

Suspending 'freedom day' which imo was a badly flawed concept for 4 weeks in the present semi open format will not work.

64 Countries now have Delta cases and it has doubled case numbers in the USA in the last week

This is the worst variant strain yet by far

More vaccinations are needed now even for those with two doses

Delays between doses is now also a flawed concept due to only 33% efficacy

A more rigorous lockdown is the only answer BUT getting one now after 'freedom day' expectations is going to be a very hard sell.

Variants are getting worse not better as many scientists had predicted would be the case

They are coming at a rate of one dominant new world strain every 4 months

This means a new vaccine specific to each variant needs to be made in 100 days like the new chief scientific advisor to Biden has recently stated.

Mask wearing on public transport looks set to made permanent from this day forwards

OR until clean disinfected air is provided

dyor imo

Haven't posted on here for a while, but I have two questions for others to mull over if they so choose:

1. AZN originally flagged July 2021 as what they would term 'the end of the pandemic' and therefore when they would start making a margin on the Covid vaccine sales. Given that's just a couple of weeks away now, and with immunity in developed nations going reasonably well, has anyone read or heard on the grapevine whether this is still their planned date for this?

2. Secondly, what are people's predictions for when shareholders might see a dividend increase, given its been held at the same level for some years now? Great that they've maintained this in the meantime, but it would be nice to see that yield go up sometime in the future ... TIA

Merger should complete second half of the year, what I understand Alexion shareholders end up with 15% of Astra, wonder what they will do, sell or hold?
