02/9/2021 13:01 | Since Katrina cost about $160bn and that was 16 years ago , is it feasible that Ida having now had 2 bites of the cherry , could cost as much to repair and clean up? Plant hire around 6 % ? So possibly nearly $10bn AHT share of that ? Market share about 10% , but surely now there is a better concentration of Sunbelt sites ? So maybe 15%? That looks like a potential uplift of $1.5bn , however it seems that every year has damaging hurricanes now so perhaps not all that is uplift. If climate change makes hurricanes any worse , it would seem AHT are firmly in a growth business. | fenners66
02/9/2021 12:40 | Agree, good news can be bad news, hence I simply stated the data may push this up, I've given up trying to understand the market, so long as I profit from it that's all that matters :)Thanks for your TA by the way. | disc0dave45
02/9/2021 12:30 | "US Jobless claims at 13:30 which may give this a prod upwards above £58 again and close at yet another ATH……on the other hand! :)" ==================== My understanding in the topsy turvey world of financial logic good is bad and bad is good. Therefore if jobless claims are lower that suggests lower unemployment. This is bad because it lowers the need for asset purchases and increases the chances of an interest rate rise. Conversely if jobless claims are higher that suggests higher unemployment. This is good because it illustrates the need to continue with asset purchase and reduces the chances of an interest rate rise. | bracke

02/9/2021 10:34 | Good day fenners You echo my thoughts. I had pondered that even if Biden was able to complete his first term he may step aside towards the end to let Harris have a spell in office before the next election. Assuming Biden will not want or be dissuaded from a second term Harris would have to stand on her own platform. If she was already President that would make it an easier task Good day perfido "We can only hope they surround themselves with able honest people who actually know what they are doing....... ok that's a stretch :-)" ==================== That's way more than a stretch, it's miles beyond the elastic limit! And on to the SP Done with 5700 and onto 5800 September is usually the poorest investing/trading month. Whether the FED will allow that this year we will await their pleasure. | bracke

01/9/2021 20:31 | bracke ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ given that he is laughing all the way to the bank ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Aren't we all? The average purchase price of my residual AHT holding is £6.82 per share and I suspect some other contributors to this board can easily beat that. Happy days!! As for candidates for leader of the free world, if the best that they can muster is Trump or Biden, words fail me. We can only hope they surround themselves with able honest people who actually know what they are doing....... ok that's a stretch :-) . | perfido
01/9/2021 19:23 | Before Biden's inauguration I thought , aha the Dems have found a way to get a black woman president without having to persuade the electorate to vote for her. Given his performance so far I have not changed my mind. If he was to die , plan B would be accelerated but I don't think the markets would react much... | fenners66
01/9/2021 18:46 | perfido Shorting is generally off the agenda for the time being. With interest rates so low share valuations appear to have been re-evaluated. I have come to the conclusion that Black Swans no longer hold any concern for the markets. If a global pandemic with all the chaos it brings fails to bring the markets down I don't see any other Black Swan doing it... except maybe Mr Biden deceasing but even then I doubt a market fall would last long. The markets are focussed on two things only.....taper and interest rate rise. The recent utterings by Mr Biden about tapering seem to have allayed fears about that so it only leaves interest rate rise which appears some way off. I suppose if inflation forced his hand Mr Biden would have to raise rates faster than expected. So it's onward and upward towards...S&P 5000, NAS100 17,000 and will DOW do 40,000! I doubt trt's affliction will cause him much concern given that he is laughing all the way to the bank or certainly should be. | bracke
01/9/2021 16:02 | perfido Yes KETL remains on my watchlist. I note its continuing rise. I watched the video of the new factory opening. British company manufacturing in China is depressing although I understand why. Lotus Cars announced this week that R&D plus manufacturing on four new electric cars will be in new China factory. Understandable as the company is Chinese owned. | bracke

01/9/2021 14:55 | Good afternoon bracke, I’m probably not alone in enjoying the holiday as much as he is! Thanks for your views on AHT’s price action, simply amazing! Finally, if KETL is still on your watch list, the Strix bulletin board has an interesting link to video of Strix’s new factory in China, and mention of an Equity Development Investor Webinar on 24th Sept which should be interesting. I remain a holder, satisfied with progress to date! (NAI, & with apologies for off topic) | perfido

01/9/2021 11:12 | Good day perfido Most unfair of you and uncalled-for. I have little doubt 'in it to win it' was probably enjoying an extended holiday break on the back of another good share price day. If he has viewed the share price today he may well decide to extend his break further. As to the share price High volume yesterday enabled a close near to what had been continuing resistance at 5700. The 5690 close provided the springboard today for an opening gap over resistance. At this point I normally say that it is likely to drop back to test 5700 but as we know AHT likes to prove me wrong so I'm not going to say it. I will say that there is todays opening gap from 5690, will it drop back to fill or soar on to new heights? | bracke
