enables the Board to look to the future with confidence and we now expect business performance this year to be ahead of our previous expectations.

Decent growth, nice to see the Canadian business starting to perform despite them saying its still "early stages"

Anticipate a 20% rise in annual dividend now......

Why recommend "hold" when the share price is above his target!......crazy and does little IMO for their reputation.

From Citywire:Berenberg is predicting 'another generally solid update' from Ashtead (AHT) and the broker believes the equipment rental group can continue to take market share.Analyst Thomas Burlton retained his 'hold' recommendation and increased the target price from £48.50 to £55 on the stock, which closed up 0.5%, or 26p, at £58.60 on Tuesday. The group is due to report its first quarter results later this week, which Burlton expects to be 'generally solid'.'Growth rates will look particularly stellar this quarter as Ashtead laps the weakest period of the prior year, during which Covid-19 pandemic-related restrictions caused disruption and delay to construction projects,' he said.Despite the weak comparatives, Burlton said he 'expects Ashtead to display continued market share growth, and we think in general underlying trends are unlikely to have changed much since the company last reported'.He added: 'In addition, we think the current inflationary environment bodes well for rental rate improvement this year and we expect positive commentary from management in terms of the rate outlook.'

If they exceed expectations which we definitely think they will broker upgrades will follow pushing the share price higher. Could see £65 short term.

I've used the Sterling to USD Q1 results provided in the 15th June RNS for the LFL percentage changes.Wouldn't be surprised to see a beat.....here's hoping anyway. The impact of hurricane Ida won't be realised until Q2, but there was hurricane Elsa in early July!.

'The BoE expects inflation to rise sharply this year and hit a peak of 4%. The strong reading for inflation could reinforce expectations that the BoE is set to tighten monetary policy quicker than the European Central Bank or the U.S. Federal Reserve.'

General consensus is the recent inflation rises are thought to be only temporary.

US inflation not quite as high as forecast , but some inflation in the US a good thing?
If US looks like moving rates up earlier the $ might strengthen I know they are planning on reporting in $ but it still translates into stronger £ results and..... dividends !

Some inflation in construction may allow a raise of rates , which may help too....

Inflation and Price Indices for August published today show percentage changes over 12 months as:

CPI +3.2%,
RPI +4.8%

This is a more than nine-year high for CPI, fueling expectations that the Bank of England could act sooner to hike rates.

I knew those index linked NSCs were worth hanging on to, as some ballast in my Investment Portfolio! :-)

On Thursday, Ashtead Group will provide a trading update (LSE:AHT), PLC that will include first-quarter trading details for the company. This will give more insight into how the US and UK building markets have performed.Management will likely comment on the Sunbelt strategic ambitions that they set out at April's investor conference. These results also represent the shift to reporting in US Dollars for the FTSE 100 group. This means that the consensus forecasts may be a little distorted.Peel Hunt, a broker, stated that "Overall we believe that group performed well during the quarter", with continued volume momentum in Sunbelt US.The outlook is strong and we see upside risks building to FY22E estimates."HTTPS://www.share-talk.com/share-talk-expected-market-updates-for-the-week-ahead-13th-september-2021/#gs.aoch0c

Back up to the September high.

Looks like it's heading for the rising wedge upper trendline but it has been rising on opening and dropping back in the afternoon. It's left behind a 'chunky' gap.

"No prize? Then I’m not playing any more.."
============================================

Very mercenary.

I haven't posted a chart for a while so here's one to mull over.

Once again I am setting myself up for AHT to make me look silly again, not that I need any assistance.

You will observe a rising wedge. The lower trendline has been touched on numerous occasions. The upper trendline is less defined having been touched on 2/3 occasions which makes it less certain. The probability of this pattern is a fall below the lower trendline

It could be argued that apart from the high on 02 Sept after which the share price dropped back the price action is a triple top and therefore the pattern is an ascending triangle. The probability is an upward breakout. The black dashed trendline indicates the triple top level.

Whichever pattern prevails the distance the candles are along both patterns suggests a resolution soon.
