Has anyone noticed the giant ten year cup and handle forming, which if indeed does constitute a true cup and handle, indicates a price of somewhere around 11p. Someone’s got to bring some optimism!

The company has chosen its strategic path and I have no problem with that route. It has also shown no inclination to support the share price and investors by providing help in the form of PR or positive RNSs.

9 out of the last 26 RNSs have been about director shareholdings - some may say that is good news, others may say it shows where their current priorities lie.

HaHa, but it's not great at all really. Investors could be picking up cheap shares yet again, to see them become even cheaper. Real shame.

If anyone mentions 'Fundamentals' or 'Background seller' today, I will not be responsible for my actions.

the last little tick down as small as it is, does however break the nice horizontal line, i hope it closes today back at starting point or better still a tick up, otherwise it looks like the start of next leg down.

clearly, this is not a ta assessment, just me looking despairingly at the chart.

JAF there are a lot of people who won't want to see negative comments and will therefore pick holes in any of them. Your point was obvious, people can point at the 'what' all they like here, if the 'how' remains a problem the share price will stay where it is.Doesn't matter how good the product is if people don't trust the seller, or indeed if people in the shop next door are much better at selling their worse products.

Charles C's post 4271 is what's relevant imo. Eventually AAU will come good. It's frustrating for some I know, but there is value here and we have yet to see a widely predicted correction in equities, which will see gold prices increase and a re-focus on miners. May be months, but may be worth adding on the dips.

Unfortunately not JAF. Somewhere along the line is an x-factor and this company just doesn’t seem to have it ATM.

I was not trying to write the definitive history of video tapes in the 1980s and I accept all the corrections that people have made. My objective was just to show that having the best product / company / gold mine etc etc does not in itself guarantee success.

I wish I hadn't bothered !

aagghhh JAF. A very nostalgic but pot-holed analogy. VHS won through due to a) the tape recording machines being cheaper to buy, b) able to run for 120 minutes (cinematic length, rather than its initial competitors 60 minute ‘tv’ length and c) the greater availability of porn on VHS!!!
The only reason of the 3 that equates to AAU, is the cost of manufacturing and at less than $600 per ounce of gold to get out of the ground, then we should be the one to choose!
Thanks for taking me back to the early 80’s though. Happy days!

My understanding is that VHS became the market leader as it was the format favoured by the porn industry.

Jaf, you state VHS was the worst, but this is only partially true. It is my understanding that whilst the quality of VHS was the worst, the were actually the best on length of video, so they suited the long form movie format well. Hence the main reason they became a market leader - fundamentals of the industry at the time.

Bit of a strange analogy to say the least. We mine gold . We are not mining a commodity which is going to become worthless because no one uses it?????

One of the problem with fundamentals is that they are sometimes not the deciding factor. For those of you who were old enough then, there were 3 competing video tape formats in the 1980s - VHS, Betamax and one from Philips. Of the 3, the worst by a long way was VHS and which one conquered the market ? Of course it was VHS. Why ? Because its promoters made sure that the biggest range of tapes and the most number of outlets were selling VHS.

Ariana may have some of the best fundamentals of the current batch of junior AIM miners but that is not always enough.

JAF - news could be very good u/g grades at Kiziltepe, a new ball mill and Tavsan fasttracked as well as progress at Salinbas, Cyprus and Romania which I guess will be further assisted by the presence of Ozaltin. These are the reasons I haven't given up on the company and I'm expecting a decent recovery this year.

Charles,

It is an old saying that people don't buy from companies, they buy from people. I know I've said it before but I believe it has been some of the actions of the board that have put off potential buyers.

As you say, the fundamentals are good. They may well be believed but there's no incentive to buy them - that's why I asked earlier about news that might kick-start the upward journey. The special dividend is now a non-event which, to me, shows how badly this has all been handled.

Many will reinvest, many will have tax free wrappers, it's rewards shareholders. Watch the TW interview it's explained very well.

It's just the seller in background is selling independent of company fundamentals. I've said it many times but smacks of an estate crystallising shares to pay out to beneficiaries.

Where is the logic in a company valuation of £44m and a cash position of £30m with assets valued at probably twice that amount and a share price reflecting only 1.4p for those assets? Totally illogical imho. Something has to change soon surely.

DP,

The problem with your logic is that the special dividend had already been announced whilst the share price was steadily rising to 6.3p so the market seemed to approve of it then.
