30/12/2020 23:58 | Nowadays, it's rare for a product eligible for an ISA to be mis-sold, at least according to the FCA understanding of the term. Rules on financial promotions are tight but there is a recognition that at least some responsibility lies with the consumer. I'd be surprised if any of the products referred to were genuinely mis-sold. Just hucksters wrangling for business. They should be careful, mention a specific product and they'd have a libel case on their hands. | alm6
30/12/2020 23:48 | Interesting to note that the parasites are out in force advertising on the radio, trying to attract punters who have "lost money on an ISA or investment". Funny how that advertising has accelerated since Covid and therefore most ISA's and portfolios will have taken a hit, therefore 'underperforming' and 'mis-sold'. I always wonder whether anything would have been 'mis-sold' if everyone had made money from their pension / endowment / investment etc., because inflation continued at the old rate of 8-10% and was paralleled by growth in investments. I remember in 1980 (roughly) being told that it was reasonable to expect my endowment to grow at 8-10% a year and therefore to put in £xx a month. I wonder if there would have been a big investigation into mis-selling, if they had said "but actually growth might only be 2-3%, so we recommend putting in 5x the amount. Imagine the fuss about unnecessary commission and unnecessary extra payments. I know, yes there was gross mis-selling and promises, but I also know that loads of people have had payments simply because their funds didn't grow and they took no notice of the 'might go down as well as up' warnings. | ![]() yump

30/12/2020 22:44 | BTC has risen 51% since breakout from the previous high of $19,114. In April 2017 after breaking above the then high, in almost identical circumstances, it rose 60% before falling back 10% then rose to 150% from the old high. And that was just the beginning. It ended up 1,557% higher at $19,114 from the breakout at $1,153. We appear to be on the same path. | ![]() horneblower
30/12/2020 22:34 | I'm taking a slightly different approach. Buying ARB on any dips of 10% or more, but not selling a single share until BTC hits $100,000 - so not so much going on the ARB price but that of BTC. Just looking at the latest correlation, looks to me as though we'll pierce 40p and hold that level when BTC goes over $30,000 - which isn't that far off now. | ![]() crypto nugget

30/12/2020 17:12 | Big prizes for those who guess the next buzzword, although I never did very well out of 'Big Data'. Probably because most of the time it was being used to mean 'lots more data than 5 years ago'. Cybersecurity been and gone. Podcasts, VOIP, old hat. My guess is "Quantum Chain". That would be one of those shares that when you think you've pinned down its USP, its been changed. | ![]() yump
