02/11/2002 00:56 | A good example of the ARK MM tricks is widening the spread on rises, then putting through a mid price trade, I suspect the last 150K MM trade was a sell, as it's typical ARK MM behaviour to do this before a price move. It's often difficult to tell what's REALLY happening with the trades, until the price moves significantly over a few days. | ![]() mad4it
02/11/2002 00:14 | ards Nobby moved up to 27p at 9:19 and 28p at 9:55. However, you may be right about the 1,250,000 trade. An alternative theory might suggest it COULD be a sell and, if so, it's probably a big chunk from our seller. Therefore, this would also explain why Nobby moved up and the other MMs have released the price. Either way it looks positive. I don't blame you for being suspicious and the ARK MMs are notorious for 'bear traps'. However, with cash, (enough to last 6-7 years), at the end of September equating to approx 37p per share and NAV of 41p, there seems minimal downside. | ![]() mad4it
02/11/2002 00:14 | A return of 10p a share will do very nicely :-) | divina
02/11/2002 00:02 | At the risk of being pedantic Ards, Nomura shifted from 26.75 to 27.0 after the large trade then up to 28.0 at 9:55 | ![]() nav_mike
01/11/2002 18:20 | Arc International's appointment of WestLB Panmure as joint broker and advisor will increase speculation as to what the chip designer might do with its £108 million cash. WestLB joins Goldman Sachs in helping Arc's (ARK) board 'evaluate the relative merits of the strategic options currently available to the company, including a review of the Group's capital structure and requirements and its business plan.' Arc said at the time of its third quarter results last week that it was evaluating strategic options, although chief executive Mike Gulett told Citywire that the company was definitely not up for sale. 'I am confident that we can build a profitable, high value, sustainable business, which will be in the best interest of shareholders,' he said at the time. Still, there will no doubt be plenty of pressure being brought to bear on Arc to do something with its cash pile. Times have been particularly tough for Arc in the past couple of years, and there was a definite sense last year that the company had lost its way. Gulett joined last December, and has clearly made some progress in sorting things out. However, the company is still burning through plenty of cash, some £9 million in the last quarter, and investors will want to know that the remaining £108 million will be put to good use. If not, there will no doubt be calls for the cash, or at least some of it, to be returned to shareholders. Parthus, a similar business to Arc which floated at around the same time in 2000, has recently been bought by a US rival, and Arc might struggle to find a good business to buy that would genuinely enhance its path to profitability in the foreseeable future. The company said it will spend this month reviewing options, and will announce the outcome as soon as it is complete. The shares are up 1p at 27.5p. Holders should wait for further news. Any new money would be simply trying to second guess Arc's next move. ©2002 Citywire | ![]() ards

01/11/2002 13:27 | ards please dont get me wrong, I wasnt looking to score points. I am new to ARK but I like the risk/reward and was following the level2 moves this morning. You could very well be right - I just think the announcement lends a degree of support thats all | ![]() nav_mike
01/11/2002 13:25 | Nav mike thanks for feedback. I am always happy to be corrected when wrong. But there is still something fishy about these trades. why with such large buys the price rise is paltry. I am yet again going to be conspiratorial and suggest that even though there were some large buys this am there may be some large yet unreported sells going on in background to be reported as usuall at 4.31pm. This does not mean that this share is not a good investment, I think it is. It is just that I am unsure of timing. Just to show I am not a complete deramper I am still thinking of taking a punt on ark today. To show I am also a ramper when needs be there does seem to be some action at bbg with a potential takeover bid announcement soon. as usual DYOR. | ![]() ards
01/11/2002 13:08 | Massive trade of 5,373,500 @ 27.5p. It looks like a buy, but....!?! | ![]() mad4it
01/11/2002 11:32 | my screen says Nomura shifted later at 9.55. I am not saying there is no buying but I also suspect some sells into strenght as well. I still think it is a reasonably good bet but I cannot understand why no clear buy recommendation from brokers who are close to company. neither am I happy that the directors have kept their hands in their pockets. perhaps some of the buys today may be directors. one further concern is that the mms normally have their fingers on the pulse and there has been little mark up today. a few months ago I would have snapped these up but now believe that most city people have a liberal view of what honest behaviour is about and more caution needed. | ![]() ards
01/11/2002 11:21 | I understand where you are coming from Ards, but there is no way Nomura would have shifted their offer price by a relatively large amount at exactly that time if it were a sell | ![]() nav_mike
01/11/2002 11:19 | I sense city still cautious as no outright buy recommendations. also I am not sure about that 1.2m trade at 9.19. It was not protected but late and I still think could be a sell. sorry if bit negative but I have been manipulated so many times buy the shysters in the city, I am ultra cautious. The announcement sounds also like a bit of choreography to suck in retail punters. I could of course be completely wrong and the share may fly. | ![]() ards |
