Cost of living in Portugal is at worst half that of the UK, you can live very cheaply.

We are now 1 week away from the WTI June contract expiry (19th May). It will be interesting to see what happens as storage capacity can only be less than 1 months ago IMO.

goldfinger, why should I want to move when it so long finding the right spot. I don't buy property for speculation, but for somewhere good to live and enjoy life and living in, the back of beyond, as you call it, is what I am looking for. Think you've been watching to mant Ben Fogal programmes. Here the shops are just a mile down the hill where you can buy most things, but if you really can't get what you want then there is this miracle of science called the internet, even those living in the wild,,, have internet. Am not bothered wether it goes up or down in value as I can live quite comfertably without, besides, land never goes down in value, only houses do that. Remember Mark Twain. "Buy land son, they're not making any more."

re 19101 post, that is the first potentially serious competition to DDDD MRx-4dp0004 that i have seen. Interesting to see unconventional approaches tackling problem.

Good old Ryanair re-installing a vastly reduced flight plan 1st July. Didn't think i would say good luck to ryanair, but i do hope it works out for him. Its a little bit of positivity.

Vodafone maintains div for the year. Some sectors still paying divs. That’s good and affords confidence for us

You are comparing apples and oranges.
I have lived in spain for 17 years, on the coast and in a very sort after area.
I can tell you that my villa today is worth about the same as i bought it. But as i was a builder it looks nothing like it did back then.
There is a market in Britain unlike most of europe.
If you get a buyer you have to wait, you have to accept the offer you get.
I have some friends that live like you inland with great views, but not many people want to live in the back of beyond, so i would not want to be you when you want to sell. But i have a very nice life here and i hope you do too.
But the house i sold in england has risen from 300,000 to around 1m.

I liked your article but for a divi play AAZ has one fatal flaw its in a massively cyclical industry, gold mining, and as such is not a good LTBH candidate. I have a LTBH portfolio at least I did until Feb when I sold the vast majority of it as lessons learnt from 2008 told me sell and rebuy at bargain prices later. I have not mentally put AAZ in that part of my portfolio as it does not meet my criteria of a long term stable company, I also look for a few years divi history to prove they are reliable but AAZ failed at the first hurdle due to the fact I expect it to fall in line with gold at a later date, which will happen at some point as the gold chart is a roller coaster. AAZ will fall by much more than the divis collected and if on the other hand we get to the hyperinflation stage of post war Germany I don't think the divi is going to count for much either. There are those that just collect divi payers but experience has taught me to look for a few basic points first and I suggest many divi hunters are of the same mind they look for stability over a long period of time first barring the current black swan obviously but I have learnt how to avoid that one it being 12 years since the last one that wrecked my portfolio.
