04/4/2002 10:07 | Royce - I think the same about GSK - long from 1610. I have been finding it difficult to find any decent day trades lately so haven't posted. Have taken a long term short on LNB (165) on basis of going thru results in detail especially those US operations. Interestingly there is also a shorting charge on this stock. Still short mtn, piz. Long bsy, boc, bii. | humdinger
04/4/2002 10:02 | ruth, same happened with dow fall yesterday. dow marked up +32 had me thinking along the lines as you. Perhaps the thing is to bite the bullet, take the far out quote with a small position, and see if a requote is offered. cmc was so far out from the early dow trading, it was impossible to assess. The movements bore little similarilty to the real price. Pity, because I had planned a short. Perhaps they are trying to stop out existing shorts? | random

04/4/2002 09:58 | someone please tell me im not barking mad,am i just being a paranoid fool here, woke up this morning to look at spreadfirms expecting ftse opening up around flat, after last nights bloodbath on dow my thoughts were that ftse would get hammered and open up about -35,however as the guys who work for these firms are much more experienced than me,i thought theyde know better so it put that little seed of doubt in my mind, surely they will get it right more than me i thought, however i sat here not shorting in case it went ok like they predicted only to watch it drop and drop to around the level i had in mind, now here is my theory,is there sometimes a conspiracy out there to implant doubt in our decisions by the big boys,so they can profit from dragging people in with a false sense of well being in the market?or am i really just really barking mad, lol!!!!! | ruth

04/4/2002 09:52 | Rumours of placing on CTM; can see 5m worked at 40p. 20m total vol so far, accounts for half of it (presuming MMs have passed on the 5m in the market = 10m). | spectoacc

04/4/2002 09:50 | Bullshare, I wish that I had seen your remark about trading the Dow 2 weeks ago because I got bored one week ago trading the FTSE 350 and started trading the Dow. The result is that I have given back 6 weeks profit. You will receive my Booking Form shortly for 10 May course, meantime I appreciate your view on whether trading the NASDAQ is any easier. | richyrich
04/4/2002 09:48 | Morning all Short BAY - higher fuel, discounted air fares and potential 'environment tax' make it vulnerable? Long GSK - its now down to Sept 11 levels. However, I'm a bit nervous holding a long in it. Anyone any views? | chaspebble

04/4/2002 09:34 | Shares in Colt Telecom Group PLC rallied through the morning after yesterday's falls on news of the resignation of chief financial officer Larry Ingeneri, dealers said. The shares dropped 15 pct yesterday as the group revealed it has begun a search for a successor to Ingeneri, who is leaving the position he has held for nearly six years. Schroder Salomon Smith Barney repeated its speculative 'buy', believing yesterday's share price falls were overdone and the company will survive the downturn. The broker views the current level -- following 15 pct falls on yesterday's news -- as a buying opportunity. It said it does not believe the loss of Ingeneri indicates operational or financial difficulties. However, it reduced its price target to 150 pence from 300, and believes the short-term rally will be capped at 75-85 pence, given the carrier disconnections. The broker, however, has also cut its full year 2002 estimates by 28 pct and its 2003 by 29 pct due to a 20 pct cut in capex, and the challenging wholesale market. LOL... they have gone down since that note came out. | vinie

04/4/2002 09:23 | Royce - I'm with the theory that it's down to low volume that we're struggling to make. And that's due to pension funds pulling out of equities and heading to bonds. If they're not around to give me a few quid, it leaves only you guys . . . :) | spectoacc
04/4/2002 09:22 | ps gsk i think we may have a bottom time will tell | royce
04/4/2002 09:21 | Any crystal balls on the likely news from BP? If share price is anything to go by people are nervous. | paulf
04/4/2002 09:21 | I think our reduced profits are a result of the market just going on with no fear and no greed,-- no fear because all the data is good so no need to panic sell. no greed because the market is not going up we had the first line of stocks move then the secound now we are just waiting for the usa to stop messing and get on with it.but what will be the catalyst for the next up or down? or as i think sell in may and go away | royce
04/4/2002 09:20 | Specto - price movement on BP. this morning does not imply the best news when you would've thought it should contain no surprises. Back below 620 doesn't look good to me. | big al 39
