It was 92% chance of BOE for me 100% now. Income seekers will go for high yielders Abdn and of course Phoenix looks great value, ii the jewel in the crown must be making good money. |
Well it is taking its own sweet time. |
all it says is ftse up, including permadogs like abdn |
Let's not digress TOO far from the subject of ABDN please all.
Thanks |
![](https://images.advfn.com/static/default-user.png) if i can digress onto matters i am professionally acquainted with, to a relatively new regular poster on the bb, it strikes me that there is a collective negative groupthink going on about uk equities in general. which is not surprising given how poorly ftse has performed compared to us indices.
but trump is obviously totally psychopathically narcissistic. perhaps not quite civil war in 10 years in us, but certainly huge civil unrest. especially when he issues an edict allowing a president to serve more than 2 terms. it will come, believe it. i think he is a russian double agent. why else would he often refer to putin as "vladimir"? why else would he try to stage a revolution, which is how i saw the post 2020 election result?
i see trump 2.0 = peak us. money will need to flow to safety out of us, so yes gold, but some will come to any sane market like uk, even if it is run by incompetents. the £ is on a pathway to hell, but so are the $ & euro. i see loads of value all over ftse 350. there is always value in a trading company even if the currency it trades in is bust.
trump has primed the us for a fall, the trigger will be a black swan event that we all know is coming but everyone ignores. possible big one hitting san fran and exposing all the inherent weaknesses inside us, just after he has sent troops into panama and starting vietnam 2.0 |
I don't follow bonds or gilts all I concentrate on are the dividends and the return by virtue of same.
If dividends are maintained at present levels this is a no trainer but do pay attention to its fellow hoodlum phnx as even better yields on offer there just have to wait for investors to rediscover the bottle to enter the fray
Fear is driving this market at present time |
sigmund freud, we're going to see 9000 FTSE 100 this year. FTSE 100 still half the value of S&P 500 and our darling Reeves and doing a fine job lighting the growth fire pit. |
Apologies to all Had missed out 'Investors ' but corrected now. So worry no more. |
Even I'm Confused ! |
Nerves shot to pieces? Are you sure you should be dabbling in the stockmarket Jim? |
ok thanks v m SF and McC
I think maybe 4/02 is finish would explain the Hang Seng barely registering any sell off in line with all the other indices.
Thanks again
Will await states but inclined at such times to do nothing due to lack of liquidity and investors nerves shot to pieces. Good luck |
Last Wednesday was Chinese New Year. Ports and shipping usually affected for 2 weeks. |
the big asia holiday was chinese new year. everyone should be back now, it has mostly finished |
I have a question if any one can help please
I Think the lunar holiday in far east is imminent ?
Does anyone have the exact dates for this year ?
My belief is that it does impact the market thus try to avoid placing any trades during this period
Thanks |
Yup. Im expecting a near 40 point drop tomorrow. The Market has been desperate to pull back for some time now. spud |
Tomorrow market down, talk of tariffs, best to stick to uk domestic stocks which are unaffected Adbrn, Phoenix etc. |
I haven t any expectations as to sell level
As long as it stays out of the 130 s I won't be too unhappy.
This enables me to raise another point namely
Why is and has Mr Douglas Flint been given shed loads of our money while the abdn share price has catered under his stewardship as Chairman.
CEO s have been and jettisoned but the useless article is still in place
The share price is going nowhere until the useless appendage has been defenestrated
Talk about dead wood.
I am surprised the learned? posters haven't picked up on this point.
Will buy while dividend is maintained while that dead heat is in situ takes away my appetite
Hav3 a good weekend |
I have price targets where I think price could go, my target is 220p where Abrdn were trading couple of years ago. In the meantime collect this great dividend on the way. |
![](https://images.advfn.com/static/default-user.png) MC- i entirely expect many hilarious comments from this. the average chart on advfn is about as popular as a dose of the clap, and many seem to see the authors of such charts as a venereal disease. but i don't really give a monkeys about them.
i would say any decent value ftse stock is a buy, even a tracker. see very long term ftse chart from end of the 1987 crash below. it indicates that there might well be a significant movement soon. and due to its good value and even US asset managers making comments about uk being good value, we might be about to see the best return in my investing career.
none of this will make economic sense of course, the uk is bust. however consider if the £ experiences a "moment". significant loss in value. the overseas earnings of many ftse stocks will turbocharge them. and if they are cheap now, they will suddenly become the buy of the decade to overseas investors.
experience tells me that the link between the ftse and economic news is not always a highly correlated one.
and if you believe in precious metals being the saviour to uk investors as a hold of value through the turmoil, then silver could give you leverage over the gold price, and it is well away from catching up.
my 3 picks are stan, pru, silver

Nice rise today so far and EEE back on its upward trajectory ! Happy days. |
That's very specific C I.
I bought two lots of £5000 late last year and had a divi that I dripped. This rise has my value now at £10,414 at 154.15p rate.
I have no idea what has prompted this latest small surge but am mightily thankful for it.
I had considered selling the entire ABDN holding and place it elsewhere. But where?
SBLK seems a good home - I hold $18k but sitting on a paper loss so far of $5k albeit $800 divi has been placed into my SIPP bank account. SBLK has enjoyed a small rise from a quite low point of about $14.35 just over a week ago. It was $20.40 back in mid Nov. 2024. |
I'll be selling at 166p ! |
well it certainly seems to have made a small double bottom and is now above the 200mda. it has not spent much time there in the last 4-5 years. let's hope it is a relocation rather than a temporary holiday. a bit of resistance around 170p. if it gets above 180p it might really start going north. perhaps i am in optimistic holiday booking mode? lots of my usual doomed to failure value investments seem to have turned a corner. except vod which seems to be a permadog, although amazingly with the divvies i have had, i am in overall positive territory. for now at least. just waiting for bad news on interest rate outlook to send them all down the pan again! |
It went very well spud thankyou.
Celebrity seemed to have upped their game especially in the food area since the last cruise 18 months ago. Quite a few Russians on the cruise and at hotels/resorts before and after. Males of military age but clearly not military (overweight).
Even with the basic WiFi package on the ship I was able to keep abreast of the lack of activity in the market whilst I was away.
It appears my ii SIPP is operating OK again now on the main PC (no probs. on the app.) and I'm pleased to see my ABDN holding at an average of 151.247 per share shows a small profit just now. When I bought these two tranches in Aug '24 and Oct '24 my hope was to sell them for a small profit. Didn't happen but tempted now to hold for the next dividend which is generally in the middle of May. |
