From Pat Lay's Small Caps;

However, the company that must bear the burden of being nominated my Top Tip for 2005 is Bob Holt's Mears Group. When we first started writing about this Gloucestershire-based support service group, whose main business is maintaining social housing for local authorities around the country, the shares were changing hands around 60p rising to around £1 and then falling back again. We always recommended buying on any fall.

Sadly those opportunities have gone now as institutional investors finally came to their senses. In the past year the shares have soared from 126p to 207p and, with an order book stretching to 2024 there is no reason why Mears' shares should not grow another 50% in the year ahead.

RCTurner2: Agree with deehill. Not a company to play with share price. Very much buy and hold.

you would, probably, be right. they do look a tad heavy but ALL FIGURES at Mears are academic, since the have long been overtaken by events. It aint what you see, its what they do that counts. tttttel ttthhat tto Tttiinker.

I am interested in buying into this company, but the current price looks very inflated if you look at the RSI 40 value.

I would suggest that a short term retraction from the current price level is likely.

Maybe I wuz wrong. See they are paying nearly 230P this a.m. in London. It is interesting that the broker for Connaught is pushing the stock and quoting the 'differnce' between Connaughts and Mears evaluation. There IS a considerable difference and its ALL to do with margins AND CONNAUGHT DO NOT COMPARE, neither do they show the capability of catching up.

Lets hope that ALL the MGS brigade are showing due appreciation of their good fortune and supporting the Tsunami funds. Lets,also, hope that conscience overcomes the fat cats at the Credit Card companies who are creaming off their commission on EVERY DONATION made by card.

Strangely, NO. The trouble with this sector is that few actually realize the ENORMOUS potential of a company poised to take advantage of it. The basic idleness of Council executives, the unwillingness to bear the responsibility of staff organization, oh, so many factors make this market VAST. Problem, now, is how do you(that is, Mears) maintain your firm hold over ever increasing staff numbers, fractionalized depots and all the other problems of becoming a BIG company. Seemingly the problem has been addressed by Bob Holt and the other directors in the appointment of a new CEO who, sensibly, spent his first period touring the country and actually MEETING the folk who worked for him. This bodes well. When the figure stands at two and one half billion it MIGHT be time to rest awhile.
